Good article...thanks. Many years ago I read an article about a study that found Democrats got a significant 'ignorance bonus.' The study found that voters who could not correctly identify candidates actual positions on various issues were far more likely to vote democrat.

I'm just not sure whether there is a real fix for this problem. Dems have an inherent advantage here w/ their message of tooth fairy economics vs. the R's trickle down economics. What is an easier sell--Obama saying that he'll give you free health care, help you with your mortgage, tuition, etc? Or Romney saying that he wants you to have the opportunity to go out and work 8 hours, and earn a paycheck?

"The right will become masters to no slaves, they will have to devour each other and the meek will inherit the earth'
Anyone can babble about a dark future, what are Conservatives going to do today that matters in the lives of the average American?

Analogy fail. I think Frank had it right in the first place. In one case you're talking about people who are just following the rules handed down by those in authority, in order to obtain (perceived) benefit . In the other case you're talking about breaking the rules in order to obtain benefit.

Try another analogy: suppose the storekeeper is in cahoots with a theft ring, gets stolen merch and sells it at half price. Now do you blame the shopper who takes advantage of the bargains, or do you blame the storekeeper who is dealing in stolen goods?

This type of insulting rhetoric hits especially hard for minorities. And it is exactly why no minority will ever vote for Republicans in serious numbers again, if this keeps up. And then you guys wonder why they didn't vote Republican.

Yes and no -- the problem is you have to have a system that is compatible with human nature and the laws of nature like inertia.

We now have a system that encourages irresponsibility and laziness. The work ethic that built this country has dwindled and is non-existent in a large portion of the population.

Productivity is taxed to death aka punished while the non-productive are heaped with rewards -- and obviously more people will choose the rewards over the punishment.

Show up to work day after day, work hard --- all you're going to get is a big tax increase that confiscates most of your labor and your money will go to those who find every excuse never to work. They will have the fee cell phones with more minutes than you can afford from working. They will have the bigger televisions, the cable service, the heaping shopping cart with brand name products and steak, while you the worker scrimps and saves to buy ramen noodles.

Actually, it is more akin to a officer of the law holding a gun on the store owner while kids ransack his store.
