Translation: "Nowhere in the Constitution does it read as I claim, therefore I will employ the 'I'm not going to do your homework for you' cop-out."

The problem with so many of you who treat the Constitution as a sacred document is that the vast majority have never closely examined it. Many of you have never even read it from beginning to end.

Translation: You have no idea that the ONLY power given to the federal government is that which is laid out in the Constitution.

Here is YOUR homework assignment:

Where in the Constitution does it say that Americans have a right to free healthcare, child support payments and food stamps?

Hmmm.... kind of like the liberal utopia of being entitled to free stuff?

I find it funny that the cons and the libs want us libertarians to play their silly little partisan game!

Abe Lincoln:

There is one defining principle that seperates the libertarian from the conservative and the modern liberal (fascist/ socialist); respect for individual liberty.

I believe that you hit on it!

I really don't have a political affiliation, but I guess I could be a libertarian because I don't like governmental involvement in people's lives, institutions, and businesses.

A better question would be what civilization comes close to emplimenting the many tenents of Libertarianism. I would say likely the US in the first century of its history was likely to be close. Due to the the style of governance offered by the Constitution. Maybe... Swizterland.
However, why would a government try a system where they have very weak powers to control things. Most civilizations are built by violence and force, anyway. This would give a clue as to why we dont see this form of governance but only once, so far.

I'd assume that answers your question.

Too true. I was especially amused by the republican's attempt to coral use in line behind Romney in a vain attempt to beat Obama. I have heard many attempting to make Romney appear like he is closer to classical liberalism than obama is. I guess they take us for being fools. They are both statists, pure and simple.
