I think people of BOTH parties admire the uber-rich. The difference between them, is what they do to make their money and what agenda they get behind with their money. The Left adores Hollywood icons and overpaid athletes. George Soros, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Bruce Springsteen ..... oh, they are the "good" rich people. Steve Forbes, Donald Trump, Rupert Murdoch, Koch brothers, Clint Eastwood .......... they are the "evil" rich people.
Almost all the people on your list are political activists, and people liking them or not liking them has nothing to do with their wealth, but their political stance.
You do realize that Obama is a Chicago politician, don't you? There is no way *anyone* can attain the level of power he has through Chicago without getting their hands dirty one way or another. I'm not saying Romney was any kind of solution to the problems facing America, but calling him dirty while praising Obama demonstrates a level of ignorance far beyond that of simple hypocrisy.
Can you read?
Where the hell did my post praise Obama?
And you dare call ME ignorant?
I'm not writing about Romney the lousy politican. I am writing about Romney the lousy businessman. He made money by driving good companies out of business and then essentially taking their assets. He turned around and stashed his millions in overseas bank accounts and used tax havens to lower his income tax rate.
He's rich because he used questionable and immoral tactics to earn his money and then equally questionable and immoral tactics to avoid paying taxes on it. He then chided half the American population for not being as greedy and underhanded as he is. That has nothing to do with Obama and everything to do with some really rich people like him. They are hated because they do terrible things and then complain most people view them as terrible people.
Here is one of their monuments. The Mormon Church's City Creek Center shopping mall and condo development is at 3 billion dollars (or more) so far.
And you would not believe the difference it has made in downtown Salt Lake City! The city has been revitalized and is a pleasant place to be now. Plus, thousands of new jobs have been created. Every city should be so lucky.
It's funny but no one ever even stops to consider the value of the hours LDS people donate in service to the poor. There is no religious group that even compares. We're talking hundreds and hundreds of thousands of hours of donated time, and no recipient is expected to listen to a missionary in return.
They need to pay whatever they were paying before if not more, not get tax breaks while someone who makes $10,000 a year pays the same percentage in taxes.
by the democrats-that the poor cannot ever be successful, cannot ever achieve, and need to pull from someone else to "get their fair share".
the republican party has done a lousy job of pointing poor people to the way that they can actually succeed (but, then again, the republicans in office enjoy the same big government benefits as the democrats in office)
america needs a new 3rd party, and they need it now. they need a party to ignore all social issues, address the unending supply of cheap labor flowing into america, and actually promote training and education so that more americans can live the american dream.
of course, that would destroy the big government bootstrap dream.
Re the bolded section: Doing as you propose would increase costs for business. In effect, there is no difference between increasing costs by limiting immigration, increasing them with union demands or increasing them through taxation.
(Not necessarily referring to you), I'm fascinated by those who oppose immigration, yet stand firmly on the side of business. The reason we have allowed illegal immigration is because of business. It's a bit hypocritical to say you're pro-business in regard to the additional costs associated with taxation, regulation and unions, but you have no issue with the costs associated with homegrown/legal labor.
When you see a rich person chances are you will not even know they are rich. On the other hand most people that appear to be rich are actually worth less then you are because of debt. So I seriously doubt most people have any particular emotions when they see a rich person.
I have a brother-in-law the same age as me that used to own 2 corvettes and a closet full of 3 piece suits. I was driving a beater at the time. He ended up losing his house, his cars, his wife and filing bankruptcy twice. He wasn't rich, he was credit card rich. He was wanting to play the role of a rich person. I retired 5 years ago and he's still working at trying to fulfill that pretend life. I voted for Obama and I approve this message.
I'm not going to bother reading the first sixteen pages of this thread. Can someone tell me if, at any point in all that, "rich person" was ever defined? Are we talking rich people, really rich people, or the actually rich?

Rich and class are generated out of the mind and heart of the person...it is not about money..Recently one of my younger brothers got betrayed by what is now a "rich" person...It was this nasty woman that he had a couple of kids with...He supported her for years..she was a superficial status seeking pea brain...Well- she inherited a couple of million bucks..She instantly shacked up with some low life...dumped the two young sons and the father...moved to another city and acts as if she is high class...This evil hag is a vulture....She believes she is RICH now...a couple of million will not last her long...The thread was about whether we resented rich people.
I resent users that use people then do not pay their bill once they are done..
I don't think this woman is rich or has class...just a common thief.
