No, he couldn't. He is in touch with the realities, you're not.

Bush didn't run for election promising to bring troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan, Obama did make promises in 2008 and has yet to fulfill his promise.

Wars are big business and provide lots of $$$$ and cushy jobs to ex elected officials.

Don't for one minute think only one side promotes war while the other side promotes peace and withdrawal.
They both are hip deep in the military industrial complex.

In 2008, Obama promised to shift focus to Afghanistan, and specifically, along the (eastern) border with Pakistan which is where the real culprits for 9/11 were supposed to be. He never liked the idea of Iraq war, which remained Bush's focal point. Afghanistan simply appeared a means to get to that end.

Your post only serves to show there are hypocrites in both parties.

Were do you stand?
You're correct, we shouldn't fight unless attacked. Of course, that will never happen as the purpose of war is now to make money. Will you or I make money? Probably not. Somebody somewhere will, though.

There is no winning.

And how many in Korea?

Losing a war is cheaper, no current troops left in Vietnam.

The cost of our empire is too much!

So True. I'm not a blind Obama supporter as many of the people here are, but I'm pleasantly surprised we are where we are at considering Obama came into office with no Military, no International and no Business experience.

We should close all foreign military bases or make those countries pay 150% of our costs. Foreign bases should be a profit center, not a cost center.

If we started charging for foreign basis those countries would send us home in a heartbeat. When Americans are paying to protect France, Germany, Italy, etc, etc, it's all good. Bring home the troops and reduce our defense budget by 50%.

How much money is Obama giving to the new Egyptian dictator?

Obama's wars will never end.

You're forgetting the tens of thousands of State Department contractors we'll be leaving behind along with any other PMC forces. Plus the increased use of drone strikes in AfPak. A war by any other name...
