Actually, I am preparing a new thread expressing my outrage over the treatment of Jim Thorpe after the 1912 Olympics. It has been building up in me for 30 years (since the Olympic committee 'returned' the medals to a dead man, but did not reinstate his records in the official record books).

Keep an eye out. I expect it to get some 1,232 posts.

I've been in Australia and New Zealand. Can't say I've ever met an Aussie or Kiwi with a bad attitude towards Americans. They're a very hospitable bunch. The OP's horror isn't shared by the Kiwi's I've known. Most are smart enough to know that the United States isn't in the Commonwealth.

From the Article:

"Over the years, Dyerson also said, some other countries have adopted the US stance. So itís uncertain how many flags will be dipped Friday."

Oh wait... this entire thing was another attack on Obama. Of course!

BTW, it wasn't dipped.

Look, they named a pleasant little town in Pennsylvania after him. What more could you want?

I think he sent the bust of Churchill back to England maybe as a warning that Brits aren't welcome here......at least by the White House.

"Dipping the flag" to the queen is a sign of subordination and submission, not a sign of respect. Saluting a dead soldier or superior officer is a sign of respect, there is a difference.

That said, the jolly old hag who looks like she belongs on the face of a swedish-made cookie jar, can kiss my American ass.

The American colonies wanted out of the Empire, so who care's what they do with theiir flag? I doubt that Queen was feeling disrespected, just cause one country didn't lower their flag to her.

The irony that it's the AMERICANS that are arrogant for not dipping their flag.....is thick.

How about the arrogance of expecting them to dip their flag?
