Just raise the minimum wage. All that'll happen is that the price of cheap goods will go up, big deal.

Yes, this country is going to hell in a handbasket. Its undoing will be at the hands of the entitled poor and the greedy rich. Being that I'm solidly middle class, this fact annoys me greatly.

Good luck sending your kids to Switzerland. With no verifiable ancestry there of any kind its 10+ years and you must at least pretend to be Christian (by Christian I mean Lutheran only!), not mind learning how to carry a gun, learn the dominant language of the canton in which you reside and make a bunch of other honest efforts to assimilate into Swiss society before they will grant citizenship.

But my original point...comparing Americans making minimum wage to illegals from south of the border doing the same is apples and oranges in terms of comparison. If the conservatives are willing to talk about letting the minimum wage class be truly exempt from income tax (nothing withhold at all, not even Medicare or Social Security) like the illegals are, not mind when they live 20 to an apartment like the illegals do I'm willing to talk about how lazy Americans allegedly are.
You think part of the problem is the "entitled" poor? If you were to compare this nation's benefits for the poor, it would rank near the bottom of Westernized countries. These nations such as Sweden, Denmark etc have luxurious benefits for their citizens and they are some of the most productive societies on Earth.

Are these strikers demanding that the corporate headquarters mandate the 100% raise to the individual franchise owners to give to the workers ?
Or are these strikers demanding that the individual franchise owners give them a 100% raise ?

Whatever it takes it get the job done Bro. People willing to work deserve a living wage.

We may need to give up the Dollar value menu, though. That should send the GOP into fits.

Well since no one really had an answer I went and did some googling.

They are demanding the raises from the Corporate HQ. So that would be companywide wouldn't it rather than individual franchises.

And in some low COL states that would have burger flippers making more than teachers with 4 year college degrees.

No it's not. A single person can live just fine under $15/hr.

In New York City? My next question is then to define "live just fine".

Did you even do the math?

That comes to $1753 a month, $21,306 a year. At minimum wage, working 40 hours a week, that's only $15,080 GROSS. That leaves you $6226 in the hole per year. You also didn't include utilities in your breakdown, which is another substantial cost.

Conversely, $15/hr would leave you with $31,200 gross.

If the burger flippers were given the so called 'living wage' of $15 an hour, should the francise owner-
Fire half the staff?
Double the price of everything on the menu? How much will you pay for a Big Mac?
How does the business owner make up the difference for lost operating cash flow?
btw- not too far from where these people were demonstrating, the 'Stage' deli, in operation for many decades, is closing its doors. Reason- big increase in rent. Even people in NYC have their limits in what they will pay for a roast beef sandwich.
