Obama’s Murky Relationship With BP

The Environmental Protection Agency announced that BP is temporarily ineligible from receiving future contracts with the federal government, according to Bloomberg.

The ruling follows the Nov. 15 settlement agreement between BP and the Justice Department in which BP pleaded guilty to 14 criminal charges and agreed to pay $4.5 billion in penalties.

Obama received $112,374 from BP and its employees during the 2012 cycle, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Obama has been the largest beneficiary of BP money in the last 20 years.

The suspensions do not apply to current BP products. There are negotiations taking place to remove the suspension altogether.

So let me get this straight. He invests TAX money in green energy ventures that go bankrupt. He invests HIS OWN money in Big Oil.

Good for him. American people lose out.

Why is it wrong to invest for returns, as long as it is not a secret or illegal?

BTW, political contributions under a banner don't tell the whole story. May be BP employees preferred Obama to Romney, despite of Zomney's advertising that Obama was anti-BP and anti-business and anti-capitalism.

I guess BP found out that Obama couldn't be bought for a measely $112K. They (BP) must have thought the president was going to defend them in getting a $4.5B fine reduced. Oh well. I heard that the Koch brothers spent $300M to try to buy the election.

In other news, the republicans are still obstructing progress on the "fiscal cliff".

i have to agree with this. obama made an investment in an oil company, and he made money. good for him. the only way this could possibly be suspect is if he used insider information in making the investment, and unless you can come up with proof that he did, and make it stick in a court of law, i see nothing wrong with this.
