if a person wants to commit suicide, then whether a gun is available or not will not determine whetheer the person succeeds or not. if what is said is true, then the country of Japan should have almost no suicides as the ownership of firearms there is very small.

instead they have one of the highest rates of suicide on the planet earth.

Keep waving your guns in peoples faces long enough, and eventually people will get fed up and knock them out of your hands.
Guns are tragedies waiting to happen, regardless of whose hands they are in.

The man was an NFL linebacker, one slap from him can kill a person if he hits them in the right place. Violence against others is the same no matter what utensil they use. Plenty of people have been killed with perfectly legal things. Hell, I know a kid who will die if he eats a peanut...another kid could kill him by tricking him into eating a Butterfinger. Does that mean we should make Butterfingers illegal? What about Snicker's bars? I think Clark Bars have peanuts in them too. Maybe Reese's Pieces should be illegal too.

See the logic here?

Don't blame the weapon, blame the man and the mental illness. Sadly, this probably couldn't have been prevented, no matter what. Had he not been armed with a gun, he probably would have beaten her to death. After all, he hits some of the world's biggest and strongest men for a living, I don't think a woman would be all that difficult for him to hurt.

This is typical of the thinking of undereducated people who erroneously believe there are simple solutions to complicated problems. In the first place, guns are not the problem. The problem is that a percentage of our population are psychopaths.
These psychopaths have no conscience and no compassion or empathy for other people. If you remove guns from the population, you have removed the most effective way for normal people to defend themselves from the psychopaths.
The psychopaths do not care about your laws or morals or any so called deterrent you may think would impress them. Your statement that after you send enough of them to prison the other will get the message proves you do not know didly squat about what you are talking about.
The US currently has more people in prison than any other country in the world and that deters no one. Ask any prison guard or cop who deal with these people if they would ever consider giving up their guns and they will laugh in your face. They know their gun is the only thing that prevents them from becoming a victim.
Every person has the right to defend themselves. That right is not given by government and cannot be taken away by government. Government cannot and will not protect you.
These truths are self-evident, as is your right to own a gun and to use that gun to protect yourself and your family from those who would do you harm. Anyone who tries to take that right from you is your enemy and should be treated with the utmost distain and prejudice.

So your solution is to turn America into a fascist nation without the one principle that the founding fathers found to be even more important than a fair trial?

Do you see how insane your rant is?

I'm no gun nut, but I am a gun supporter. My grandfather was murdered...guess what, it wasn't with a gun. It was a trio of men who beat him into a coma and left him for dead as they robbed him. My grandfather spent 6 months in intensive care, traumatizing his whole family and putting them through a horrible suffering. If there were no guns...it still would have happened. If my grandfather were armed with a gun, it still probably would have happened to him because he was likely surprised by the men and would not have been able to react to them. Either way, a murder happened and it would have happened regardless of the legality of guns.

Let's take this further. Mexico has pretty strict gun laws (though not as strict as many people claim) and yet there are thousands of gun murders there every year. Why is that?

You honestly think that erasing the 2nd amendment, the one that Washington and Jefferson supported so strongly, and rounding up anyone with a gun and putting them in prison for life would somehow stop all crime? Do you honestly think that we could be considered "Land of the Free" if we did that?

Some people just don't deserve to be American...you appear to be one of them. Don't take your freedoms for granted, they're limited enough as it is.

Right.. he also shouldn't have had access to the following items that could kill him also:

A vehicle, knives, OTC medication, ropes, bodies of water, bridges... Those should all be illegal to because they can be used to kill yourself or someone else...

I'll be a testament to that since I was there when I was child and found my grandfather hung himself in the living room after his wife (my grandmother passed away from cancer)... so don't think stopping guns stops killing of other people or themselves. A sad day I will never forget.

Violent movies and video games are a bigger problem than legal gun ownership.
