I think it's a pretty simple comparison.

Back in 2003, Rush Limbaugh was fired by ESPN for claiming that mainstream sports media judged football player Donavan McNabb by the color of his skin rather than the content of his quarterbacking. He was implicitly saying, don't judge a guy by the color of his skin, but somehow in today's world that is racist, so ESPN fired him. I suppose there was an argument to be made that Limbaugh made a broad-brush accusation with no evidence to back it up, but some experts did agree with him. Who knows...I know zip, zero, nada about football.

Now Bob Costas chimes in on a football broadcast regarding a murder-suicide by an NFL player. In essence he says freedom be damned, we need more gun control. Some of us find that highly offensive. Given that gun control in America has its roots in racism, maybe it's even racist.

I do know a little about guns, and Costas's comment was idiotic. But more importantly injecting politics into a discussion where it really had no place.

I know there's another thread about this, but my question is specific--if Limbaugh was fired, should Costas be fired too?
