The differences in approach probably stems from the two different strains of the Black population of both cities. Detroit's black population was relatively new, poorer and from the rural South whereas Atlanta had a long tradition of middle class Blacks, institutions of higher learning basically they were more pragmatic. Black power is nice but if you have no money or industry it's not going to do much good.

BTW Atlanta is barely a majority Black city today whereas Detroit is 92% Black.
My point was that economics and education play much bigger parts in this than race. And Atlanta was even more Black in population when it gained the Olympics. What does that say?

Detroit's story is that it put too many eggs in one basket and it had bad, corrupt leadership. Ask yourself this. Why were the rural, poorer Blacks from the South going to Detroit? Or even better, think about this. Alot of rural, poor Whites went to Detroit as well, and poor rural Whites and Blacks didn't get along. Alot of rural Whites either returned to the South, or became heavily suburbanized. Most Blacks couldn't live in many of the suburban areas until the 1970s, and the ones who returned to the South were often the highly educated. Alot of Detroit's talented Black population left.

"PAYBACK'S a *****, when those who voted for obama, expected demands in return. Jokes on them then, because he has already won their votes, most likely, they have a long wait?

And to you Bily Lovec, there ain't nothing different about Obama, not a damn thing and you are right! Fiscal Cliff right around the corner.

Actually the unions brought many black people to Michigan detroit area initially.
Not in Michigan. Race has more to do with it than you could ever imagine. AS is evident with the voter turnout.

Idaho has areas that are eggs in one basket sort of thing but they did what is best for the people not political party. Our leaders have brought in businesses that are outside of the industry here and then some have closed down as well leaving those who worked there out of work but they did have a program at one time to re-train and educate for other things to help them to be better in the job search

Michigan has chosen to ignore the opportunities that the state has with its beautiful landscapes and 4 seasons

Exactly. That was the campaign..all about social issues and how the Republicans were going to cut all their programs if they got into office.

The children voted Santa Claus into office and now they are looking for their presents.

Or to paraphrase Mr. Limbaugh on the day after the election, 'You can't beat Santa Claus, and Obama is Santa Claus'.

Is there a state in the union with more ex-governors and/or mayors in the slammer?

There ought to be a quid pro quo," said Councilwoman JoAnn Watson, according to My Fox Detroit.

Nearly 75 percent of voters in Wayne County, which includes Detroit, voted for Obama on Nov. 6.

The article is a bit misleading. It's basically JoAnn Watson being crazy. Even as dysfunctional as Detroit City Council is, I think the rest of them were supporting a workable solution.

Okay, so JoAnn Watson voted for Obama so she deserves my tax money as a bailout? That doesn't sound like a quid pro quo to me. Let Obama write her a check. Leave my money out of it.
