The problem is they can't even make that vote now because the GOP controls the House and they won't allow it to go to a vote. However, maybe if they are more vocal to the public, the GOP will be forced by voters to allow such a vote.

Wel just be practical. Who created this so called cliff;Republicans and democrats< why did they create is the question. In plain terms they need to fix the dficit threatenig theis country. They put it i palce which contains measures neither supports. It goes i place if they cannot agree.I the end what will ahpooen is if it goes into effect each will balme the other. Just as Demcorats said for years that they Bush taxcuts were only benefited the rich;now they say that isn't ture. Its all spins as we have learned. i the end tho I don't see either plan porposed actually doig anyhtig to solve the deficit problem ;just kickigit further down teh road. Remmeber Obama has rejected and doubled down o what he previously proosed. So who do you think would like the cover of huge tax increases on all americans?

why dont the liberals try make ALL the tax cuts PERMANENT, then just do a followup bill...adding a 7th bracket make it for those householdingcome over 2.5 million...a 40% rate

but the dumbo liberals cant figure out logic

raising the taxes on the so called rick (those over 200k) will DO NOTHING for the deficit or the debt

we have a spending problem, not a revenue problem
If you want ALL the tax cuts to be made permanent, then don't ask the middle class and poor to see cuts in their medicare, education system, entitlements etc. We need to fix our deficit, so we need SHARED sacrifice.

1. Because if Obama gave into the tax hike, he would lose all his leverage.

2. That bill would never make it through the house, and you know that

3. Democrats hated the tax cuts in 01, 03, 10, and today. They are not going to allow the rich to get away with it this time. if you guys can cause us to drop in our credit rating, I got no problem with Obama taking us over the cliff if that means the top 2% get their rates jacked up, and defense spending cut.

Probably. If this happens, they will no longer be in power come mid-terms, that's for sure.

why do liberals not figure out that spending is not the solution

lets look at a 13 years span

total revenue in 2000 was 2.09 trillion...
total revenue in 2007 was 2.69 trillion....
total revenue for fy12 was 2.9 trillion

spending in 2000 2 trillion
spending in 2010 3.8 trillion
spending for fy12 was estimated at 3.8 trillion

so revenue (including recession years) went up 32%( 900 billion) in 13 years...about 2.3 percent per years

yet spending wend up 90% (1.8 trillion) in 13 years,,,,about 7 percent per year

please dont insult people and say 'same coin' ...because SURELY it is a different case

I say cut:
Foreign aid - $50 BIL a year
Welfare - $668 BIL a year
Obamacare - $109 BIL a year
Congressmen/Senator Salaries - $100 Mil a year (approx)

Save $827,100,000,000 a year!! That doesn't include the downsizing of the Federal Gov't.

Then yeah- let the bush tax cuts go and let taxes return to original rates and get rid of loopholes..

BAM!!
We start paying CHINA off and everyone else we owe money too! Oh how wonderful could that be?

Obama and the Democrats have complained about the Bush-Obama tax cuts for years so let them expire. The Republicans should give this to Obama so he can then come back with this own tax cuts next year. I don't think Obama would push very hard to get any tax breaks passed for anyone and just use it as an excuse to blame the Republicans.
