Why try to be innovative when you are not going to be compensated for it?

Unions stifle the free market.

Sure. Just like the donkey might "potentially" get that carrot some day.

In a perfect world what you are saying has merit. But this isn't even close to a perfect world. Too much greed and aggressive people taking advantage of others. I'm constantly learning new things on the job, the union doesn't prevent me from doing that. If the company comes up with a new process we adopt it and we do what they tell us to.

What are you talking about? The union I was in, had a bonus plan written into the contract. More innovation (as you put it), more production, more money. Your OP is based on false assumptions.

Unions aren't for the 1-5% inclined toward ownership.
They're for the other 95-99% of those needing employment.

Get it now?

Unions are for the collective, not the individual.
That's always been the case for unions.

Unions are horrible. Imagine the underprivileged and at-risk-for-exploitation banding together in order to have a voice, fight together for fair compensation, safe working environments, and worker's rights. We can't have that. Lowly workers need to shut up, be glad that they have employment, and take it up the butt if the employer demands it. Better yet, they need to take pay cuts to the point where they can no longer support their families while top management allocates higher bonuses to themselves.

Got it.

Over 90% of union folks work for the government. We really need unions to protect us from our own government ?

Exactly! Children should be given the opportunity to learn hard labor. The measly wage they would earn will also teach them to only buy the priorities in life such as food!
