This whole thing really unfortunate, seems like bad choices made on both sides. That said, if a peace officer feels his life is endangered by someone in the act of committing a crime, he sometimes has to make the hard choice and shoot. This woman shouldn't be killed for shoplifting, but a cop shouldn't be run over by car driven by someone trying to get away. That assumes what was told happened actually happened.
On a side note, that woman sure looks a lot like La Fawnduh from Napolean Dynamite.
There is a very simple solution to this ongoing problem.. Parents, start teaching your children that if you steal there are consequences to be paid and you could pay with your life.... But then that would be responsible.. Let's all clutter it up with a bunch of bleeding heart nonsense.
As a habitual criminal, if she had followed her agreement she would be alive today.
That doesn't mean she should have been executed without DUE PROCESS. Good lord, do we only adhere to the principles of this country when it pertains to people we like?
Was there something stopping him from getting the make/model of the car and the license plate number?
Why does it seem people with guns (lately) feel they have to go all Rambo on petty criminals?
Or even people who aren't criminals but look 'suspicious' and 'threatening'.
Where's it going to end?
I am not against gun ownership; I have a handgun, myself.
But these stories of people over-reacting to situations and killing people do, indeed, make me angry.
Someone might think you or I look threatening; I don't want to die that way.
Well she wasn't shot for looking threatening and she wasn't shot for shoplifting either.
If the police stopped you and you tried to get away and almost run them over, what would you expect ?
That they let you go and maybe give you a phone call later on saying "Hey, come on down. We need to talk to you because you drove away and almost ran down one of our officers. Would 10am be good for you ?"

I saw that picture and thought..wow that's a lot of pink there.
And he should have let her escape, and not put the children or other bystanders in danger.
It's not like they don't have uber surveillance. They could have arrested her later down the line and brought the appropriate charges.
To open her car door and shoot into the car was reckless and irresponsible, and disproportionate to the original crime.
You don't shoot into a car that has innocent children in it. Somebody has to have some composure and rationality, and it's not going to be the perpetrator.
He didn't open the car door in order to shoot into it. He opened the car door to prevent them from leaving the premises and presumably disposing of the merchandise they had stolen (evidence). When the driver put the car into reverse, and hit the gas, she was using the car door to run him down. He fired his weapon to stop that from happening. I agree with you, that firing the weapon wasn't his best course of action. I'd be willing to bet that he agrees with you, that firing his weapon was a bad decision on his part. He's a 26-year veteran of law enforcement who acted in the heat of the moment, and a woman is dead. That's tragic. But it doesn't make his actions criminal. The women in the car were the criminals. Shoplifting is a crime. This wasn't a little kid stealing a packet of gum. Ms Frey had previously been convicted of shoplifting. She knew what she was doing was wrong, probably knew that if caught she'd go to jail.
A car wrecklessly trying to evade capture or evasion is not putting others at risk? A car that just attemted to hit an armed officer? Hello?
The cop took it too far to begin with. Once she got into the car with children in it, he should have stepped back and let her go.
There are plenty of ways to identify her and get her later. It's like the gung ho LAPD who kill people on the road because they need to chase suspects in their cars at 90 mph on crowded streets.
The LEO needs to have BETTER JUDGMENT THAN THE CRIMINAL.
