GATECH study finds out every single person on earth is racist: Everyone
I think it's bad taste to discriminate on basis of race. The father could have said anything about the kid, like he doesn't make enough money, or any other excuse.
I'm not sure that this showed anything significant other than that they found a couple women who don't approve of interracial relationships. Neither person said anything against black people. They spoke against interracial relationships. They didn't say that blacks "aren't good enough" to be with whites.
If you want to show racism then show racism. But in a culture that has affirmative action, black history month, kwanza, etc you can't then turn around and try to ding someone for not being colorblind. You can't encourage black people to have a separate identity and culture and then complain when someone recognizes that they are black. You can complain if the person said the black person is lesser than the white person, but that didn't happen.
What they should have done is try to catch an employer refusing to treat black and white candidates as equal or something of that nature. But saying blacks should be with blacks and whites should be with whites without any value judgements doesn't prove bigotry.
They didn't say that blacks "aren't good enough" to be with whites.
They didn't? I think you'll have to listen again. The older women clearly states to the father "seeing it made me cry, to think a pretty girl like her would pick something like that" and "I looked at them and thought, you're beautiful, why do you have to choose that?" I think her referring to the white girl as "beautiful" and the black guy as "that" clearly shows it has to do with more than her just being against interracial relationships.
I have a son who dated a black girl for years. I had no problem with it, and her parents had no problems with my son. They eventually broke up, but that's what happens with kids. They are still friends, years later.
People are people. If you just accept them as people, race doesn't matter pretty quickly. Folks get used to the differences fast. I know several white families who have adopted black kids, and a couple of black families who have adopted white kids. It's only a big deal when someone thinks it is.
And the last I heard, Armenians are considered to be white, just like Mexicans and Italians and Greeks. We are all just various shades of tan.
