When asked during the debate with clinton, " do you know that raising taxes will destroy the economy?" he responed " i know it will, it is not a matter of what it will do, it is a matter of what is fair"

the man is sick, he repeats fair, fair, fair. Yet we tell our kids that life is not fair. in case you didnt hear that from your dad, LIFE IS NOT FAIR. deal with it, get up, dust your pants off and stop blaming others for your failures. poor people never give others jobs.

Your comments make no sense at all. Which debate? Which Clinton? What year? What were the national and worldwide economic climates then, whenever that was? I think I can recognize "sickness" when I read/hear/see it ... and I'll suggest it's not the President of the United States who is the sick one.

Comprehension eludes you but incoherence is your friend.

I know the incident he was referring to. It was during a debate in the Democratic primary of Obama vs Hillary Clinton. The essential point of Obama being on record as stating he would push his ideology at the expense of what actually worked better in reality is correct. However, torpedoes did vastly overstate it. The moderator brings up the fact that evidence shows that higher tax rates actually bring in lower revenue and Obama said he wanted to raise taxes anyway as a matter of fairness. There was no talk of "ruining the economy."

Obama's agenda is not letting the Republicans mess up the country.

Your thread is half-baked. It has no references, no link to your quote "do you know that raising taxes will destroy the economy?" and, as best as I can tell, it is merely an anti-Obama rant.

You really make no intellectual point and this thread isn't worth debating because there is nothing substantive to debate.

Crushing the economy makes it fair???

I will, forever, be baffled by the fact that people voted for him. I can't wrap my mind around it.

People voted for Obama because they didn't want the plutocrat who thinks it's just fine for the richest people in the country to pay 15% on there income.

First, there is no evidence that the OP provided to substantiate that quote.
Second, the commentator was wrong (on the video) posted by kidkaos2. He made it sound as if lowering capital gains rates were causal to taking in more capital gains revenue. At the time, there was a stock market boom that occurred prior to lowering rates. Had rates not been lowered, capital gains revenue would have been even greater.

In 1980s, revenue went down because there was a recession, not because taxes were raised. In fact, stocks boomed when capital gains rates were 39.9%.

Second, the commentator is a shill. He said, '100 million people own stock' but in reality, 90% of stocks are owned by the top 1% and half of that is owned by the top 0.1%, who pay 15% taxes on their gains.

The fact is that there is no empirical evidence that shows that raising or lowering capital gains rates effect investor behavior.

We have to remember that conservatives always say raising taxes will crush the economy. The whole GOP team, from Gingrich down, said that if Bill Clinton was allowed to raise taxes, it would tank the economy. What happened? The economy boomed.

Quote:
Rep. Newt Gingrich (R-GA), February 2, 1993: We have all too many people in the Democratic administration who are talking about bigger Government, bigger bureaucracy, more programs, and higher taxes. I believe that that will in fact kill the current recovery and put us back in a recession. It might take 1 1/2 or 2 years, but it will happen. (Congressional Record, 1993, Thomas)
