Texas's lax gun laws weren't able to prevent the massacres at Texas Tech or Luby's.
You can't stop everything. But, as countless statistics show, you can cut down murder rates exponentially with stricter gun laws.

I was born and raised in Washington DC. And prior to the recent strike down of DC gun bans by the Supreme Court, there was a total ban on firearms there for decades. It was illegal to own ANY type of firearm whatsoever in the District of Columbia, yet for many years, DC was the murder capitol of the nation.
So what you claim here is demonstratively untrue and totally without merit or support.

As one who was brought up in the fifties, I can state that spanking (and whatever Yall' call corporal punishment) was used 100 fold more then, than now, and we had way less shootings like this. We didn't have condoms available everywhere, 'the pill' available, and abortions easily available, and our unmarried mothers were not so prevalent also.

I see the idea that it is a right to own weapons...but the fact is you have to many of them...Does a gun owner need a collection of 12 hand guns and 5 semi-auto long guns? I remember the day when all you would find was the old 22 single shot bolt action - that would sit in the closet or was leaned up in the back porch of a farm house...that was normal- arsenals are not normal. Guns have become a damned fetish....and it's not becoming...it is as if American males have lost their penis and manhood and replaced it with a pistol.....Guns do not increase manhood- THEY DIMINISH MANHOOD.

Somehow, the US is conveniently left off that list, but if you go to "compare countries", pick US,any random country, crime, and then scroll down to gun homicides on the page that produces, you will see that the US ranks 8th.
ETA: Depending on the random country you select, gun homicides may or may not show up, presumably because they didn't have data for that country. When I used Belarus, it did show up.
Yes, most countries have banned or severely restricted gun's to their citizens that's why you should just look at murders to compare apples to apples. The point is that the countries that have banned bun's have a much higher murder rate than America. Banning guns only removes protection for law abiding citizen citizen. I guarantee that if you take gun's away from law abiding citizens then you will see much more criminal violence on citizens in their homes because the criminals, who will always have gun's, will know the home owner is defenseless.

Reports now are saying that he used handguns (not machine guns) and he had to kill his mother to get them. Not sure how background checks do any good in this situation if he is just going to kill the lawful owner of the guns and steal them.
I'm all for background checks, but it will never be a perfect system.
