How about "Mental Illness" tax on new Gun sales? That will solve some problem as we can use that money to treat people like Holmes and Lanza.

I am going to have to disagree with you there. I'd say one of the big issues our country has when it comes to dealing with mental issues is the fact that we even put "good" or "evil" in the same sentence.

This quickly turns mental illness into a religious or moral issue as opposed to a health issue.

And by the way, we are far from the worst out there. But we can and should do much better (the fact that we aren't is a horrible blot on our nation), and I for one see no reason why we cannot look at what other countries that are more successfully controlling this issue have done and consider doing some of those things:

oh please

timothy mcveigh didnt use a gun

killed 168 people
killed 18 children UNDER 6
injured over 608 people

you can still buy fertilizer
you can still buy diesel
you can still rent trunks

murderers will commit murder with or without a gun

guns are not the problem

True, but it does increase the chances that a burglar or "home invader" will bring his own gun, just in case he encounters an armed home owner. Then you have an armed home owner vs an armed home invader, and what ever happens next, a simple property crime becomes a crime of violence.

The hole trend of burglaries becoming armed home invasion robberies, is a direct consequence of gun culture in this country. The criminals just adapt. We are just trading property crime for violent crime.

From what I have seen so far, I would of guessed him to be autistic and was not properly treated for it.
So now autism causes people to be homicidal maniacs?

And at any rate, there are other, non-lethal methods to protect oneself in such situations. Running away is popular. Keeping a gun in your house makes you LESS secure, not more secure.
Running is not an option. I wouldn't run away and leave my dog and cats at the mercy of an intruder anymore than you would run away and leave your kids behind.

Another thing.....you say you live in an apartment......where people would hear you screaming for help.

I live in a house.....I could scream at the top of my lungs and the only one who would hear my screams is the one who was attacking me......think about that before you make fun of my concerns.

You are delusional, or insane. Such a ban will never happen.

You might wish for it.

You might hope for it.

You may lay awake in bed, dreaming that it will happen.

But it's not going to. Not now, not ever. We have this thing called the Constitution, and it insures that us mere civilians have the fundamental right to own weapons.

You might not like it. Clearly, you don't. But your dislike is not going to change anything. The American people have a fundamental, unchangeable right to own weapons. And that will not change.

To get a gun in Japan, first, you have to attend an all-day class and pass a written test, which are held only once per month. You also must take and pass a shooting range class. Then, head over to a hospital for a mental test and drug test (Japan is unusual in that potential gun owners must affirmatively prove their mental fitness), which you'll file with the police. Finally, pass a rigorous background check for any criminal record or association with criminal or extremist groups, and you will be the proud new owner of your shotgun or air rifle. Just don't forget to provide police with documentation on the specific location of the gun in your home, as well as the ammo, both of which must be locked and stored separately. And remember to have the police inspect the gun once per year and to re-take the class and exam every three years.
oh please

most of the guns that crooks and gangs have are FOREIGN made and purchaced...and imported, probably under the table

they smuggle guns even easier than they do drugs

let's see ban guns...how is the drug ban working????? hmmm
