Counseling for mental illness teaches a person how to deal with problems in life.

This guy must have had a really deep hatred for his mother. I heard he even shot her in the face!

The irony is that he shot her with her own gun. She also taught him how to shoot.

Crazy, she buys a gun supposedly for protection and ends up getting murdered by it.

The current system IS THE FIX.

I have to respectfully disagree with that. I think that instead of bailouts we should have spent money building a prison ward onto every mental hospital and building a mental ward wing onto every prison.

That way the patients/prisoners could be more properly evaluated and given the treatment they really need or deserve as the case may be.
A seasoned prison guard could spend a bit of time in the mental facility and peg the fakers and mentally ill people who just get chewed up in prison could easily be transferred to a more accommodating section.

You think embedding lies into children will fix the problem?

I think a lot of times the drugs are only supposed to cover up symptoms.

Just like all those cold medicines -- there is no cure for the common cold but you can sometimes hide the symptoms, suppress the sneeze and cough.

Someone with a major mental illness given the happy pills might seem perky and happy -- but the real condition is not being addressed. A kid put on ritalin might sit zoned out and seem to be well-behaved and be rewarded nice grades but what are the drugs really doing to his little mind?

What's scary is that psychiatrists will diagnose even 2 and 3 years with ADD - because they can't sit still for long and seem easily distracted -- which is completely normal behavior at that age. A kid throws a temper tantrum and can be put on powerful anti-depressants and won't throw another tantrum.

In the past the worst that was done to a kid was a good swat on the rear end but now we use drugs to control young children. Years of drugs.

There are reports out that the mother decided to homeschool Adam when he was in the 10th grade -- that's not the typical homeschooler but could indicate there were problems with his behavior in school.

Well -- do you really chose not to murder because there are laws against murder? Or is there maybe a moral sense that it's wrong to murder. Even if you haven't defined what would be that higher law.

If there is no God then really what's so wrong with murdering even a lot of people? Just because some government said so?

What in the world does this have to do with a topic on mental illness?

You can teach people that all you want and it changes nothing. In fact, many schizophrenics are harmed by the mix of religion and god. One of the symptoms of schiz is in fact delusions regarding their relationship with god. The disease tends to make them think they're profits and angels with a direct connection to god. More religion is the last thing they need.

Research has shown that "the dangers of having a gun at home far outweigh the safety benefits. Research shows that access to guns greatly increases the risk of death and firearm-related violence. A gun in the home is twelve times more likely to result in the death of a household member or visitor than an intruder."
