I do not believe that allowing people to be "different" would have influenced the shooter. In fact, it would be more reasonable to say that the shooter was forced to conform to the traits to the of the popular kids. And to the OP, don't pretend that the popular kids and bullies are the moral, upright people cause they are often not. As for him being taught "everyone is special" by his teachers, that's because their right. Disrespect for others personality has often led to violence. Every person is entitled to the respect of others.

It is in my opinion though, that we are living in the products of our own making. Did you ever consider that maybe these psychotics go undetected, is because we live in a society where being "different" is now not only widely accepted, but even celebrated? And god forbid that anyone remark or mention someones abnormalities, because if they dare to notice that someone may be a little different, they are suddenly labeled as a "bully"..... Children in this day and age are now force fed with the notions that "everyone is special" and that no one is "weird" and everyone has to be coddled and embraced for "who they are". Maybe nothing can be done about these NUTJOBS because of societies desire to be so politically correct. Ever think about that???
Yes I have. And daily. But we do live in a polarized society that on one end complains about being forced into the 'socialism' corner, while the other corner wants everyone to behave alike and 'coddle' the same lame politically correct values without giving much thought about it. You cannot question anything except authority. Authority is the enemy always up for scrutiny. But when some antisocial nerd kid sits in his bedroom for days on his computer, has no interaction with anyone over 21 and dresses like a hobbit questioning any of that is a violation, even if by his own mother... Just a scenario.

For some that probably works, but in other cases it has been a disaster. I don't think the asylums of the 19 century are the answer either, but this is something that does need to be re-examined.

What are you talking about? Republicans cut funding for state/mental facilities to cut corporate taxes. So they let all the mentally ill patients out on the street.

"In 1999, following a mass shooting, Australia banned semiautomatic and automatic rifles and shotguns. It also instituted a mandatory buy-back program for newly banned weapons.

The firearm homicide rate fell by 59 percent, and the firearm suicide rate fell by 65 percent, in the decade after the law was introduced, without a parallel increase in non-firearm homicides and suicides. That provides strong circumstantial evidence for the law’s effectiveness."

Did gun control work in Australia?

Like clockwork, it came out in the news today that this kid was a home schooled, social recluse with a mental problem. Just remember folks, you heard it here first. Just keep on encouraging everyone to "let their freak flag fly" though, and while we are all just being so politicaly correct, we'll keep missing critical but subtle warning signs. If all else fails, blame it on the second amendment!!!! That always seems to work pretty well.

Is being a social recluse wrong?

I think our progs are going to have a great time attacking you and, like normal, taking your words out of context for their game playing. I tend to agree with you so know they will attack you, full force.

You may be right. When my oldest son was in the 5th grade he went after the class bully and although he never managed to hit him he did it just like I had told him to do. The kid clapped his hands over Craig's ears in a way that could have ruined them. Craig went over the back of his bus seat after the kid. Guess who the bully never attempted to push around after that.

Sometimes a little violence against those kids when they are younger is good and stops them from future crap.

That was my point. I'm glad someone got it.
