I tried very hard, but I can't think of any reason why a law abiding citizen would want to own an assault weapon. If your true motive for owning a gun is to protect yourself, why isn't a normal gun good enough? What's next, your own miniature nuclear bomb under the guise of "Second Amendment rights"? Where does it stop?
Mebbie a "NewYorkGuy" doesn't need one, (or a car either).
I don't need one myself; I'm comfortable with pistols and a shotgun.
If I lived in an isolated area or had a ranch in southern Arizona,
I'd damn sure want at least one.

You would make more sense if you would just have said what you really think "I think all guns should be outlawed", there, I said it for you. Why does the color of a gun and what it looks like have anything at all to do with why we should legally own one or not? Do you know what an 'assault weapon' is? Any semi auto rifle could be painted black and fitted with a large capacity magazine and you would have the same thing. Politicians and those who want to ban guns give them a name to make them sound bad, assault rifle, Saturday night special, etc, etc. I think mose law abiding citizens that own so called assault rifles, own one because they can. What part of "shall not be infringed" do you not understand? We have enough laws that infringe on firearms, we don't need any more. Anytime you have a 'gun free zone' you are inviting some nut case to make a name for himself. If teachers could legally carry a concealed weapon I think the senseless killing in schools would end. Look at Switzerland, they have more firearms per-capita than we do, and some of them are full automatic. They also have less crime then we do. There are no easy answers, and your idea makes no sense.
^^^But then again...women have a tendency to be mentally incapable of controlling themselves once each month....so they can't be trusted with guns...we should take guns away from everyone except the criminals like they did in the UK and Australia...

Let me illustrate something simple so you can comprehend it:
A PRISON is HIGHLY secured with a high number of monitoring devices, people and policies to control the population, there is NO privacy and EVERYTHING is highly controlled...this is a place where rules rule the day...You cannot get any more CONTROLLED, REGULATED and RESTRICTED than prison.
By the gun control advocates logic a prison SHOULD be the SAFEST places on earth from violence.....ARE they? Would you like to live in one for awhile?
If they can't make something so controlled safer than society how on earth can laws make us safer and yet be free?
They can't...we are RESPONSIBLE for own own safety and protection.
If I intended to do you harm, could you fend me off? I highly doubt it..90+% of you couldn't do anything but become a victim...UNLESS you had a gun! With a gun we are equal...you at least would have a chance anyway.
obama will give civilianized military lookalike assault rifles to the mexican drug cartels, but he doesnt even want to let the people he is supposed to be serving to have a misnamed assault rifle for self defense.
