Just a question for all those who oppose gun rights: would Malcolm X have supported taking away our right to self defense and the tools there of? I mean, should minorities, who are often the target of the police state, be disarmed and made defenseless in the face of the police or fascists organizations (like the KKK or the Neonazis) or both? (police used to be big in the KKK, and a few still are.)

I doubt it.

As a REAL PROGRESSIVE, I do support our right to bear arms, even if it means that occasionally a nut will use a gun to kill innocent people. I don't care about one nut killing a bunch of people...I fear that one day we the people may not be able to kill our enemies if it ever comes to that.

The left has always had a strong tradition of armed militias, like the famous Iron Front of Germany or the Abraham Lincoln Brigade of the Spanish Civil War, or the original Black Panther Party and the Deacons for Defense: Deacons for Defense and Justice - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hence, I cannot support any law that would take away the people's right to guns. A day may come when they use hired armies (like Blackwater) to shut us down. Well, I am a working class guy, and I can't afford a mercenaries, who will always be armed. But I can and do own guns and I could get a bunch of my working class buddies together to form a militia, if needs be, and get out there and smoke us some corporate thugs. We need guns as one tactic that may be needed some day on a large scale or even in a small scale for self defense. As the Black Prince once said:

"Concerning nonviolence: It is criminal to teach a man not to defend himself, when he is the constant victim of brutal attacks. It is legal and lawful to own a shotgun or a rifle. We believe in obeying the law."-Malcolm X

Would he change that law so that only the police, criminals, and corporate owned mercenaries will own the guns?

I do want nonviolence. But I also want change in this country. Ultimately it is the powers that be that will decide how that change will come about. We could do it by the ballot...or by the bullet. But of course, the people still need bullets if we are to have a "plan B" at all.

And no one replies? Is the insane computer error putting all these "size" thingies up to blame, or are there really that few real progressives on this board?

Most of us don't give a flip about what Malcolm X would say.

So, we should just ban guns and force oppressed people to be lambs waiting to be slaughtered by the Capitalist/fascists?

If we don't care what people like Malcolm, Huey Newton and Bill Haywood would say, why not stop caring about what Washington and Jefferson would say while we're at it?

I'm not sure...in the 60's people didn't freakout over firearms like they do today.

Would he side with Obama?

My best guess would be yes.

Keep in mknd that Malcolm X changed his views going more towards the end of his life and let go of his racism towards mixed and white people. He probably would have allowed ppl to be armed but to restrict and document each guns one had and to use it in justifiable situations, instead of using guns in a radical wrong manner.
