I am sure others her can answer better but the French were absolutely war weary following WW2. They did not hate guns, they hated war. Had the US ever had a real major modern war on its soil perhaps more would understand.


They fought hard with many losses in the first few days but had no chance. No doubt their leaders made mistakes but really no country their size with a boarder to Germany could have withstood the Wehrmacht much longer.

I'm an American and could care less about what the French, British, and/or Australians think about guns. If they want to be defenseless and want to, that's their business. I just wish they would stop sticking their noises in our affairs when it comes to our gun laws.
