My ex father in law nearly had a terrible accident with a gun. He had removed the magazine, but forgot (or didn't know) that it automatically loaded the first bullet. He pointed it at his 7-months pregnant wife's belly, almost fired, and then pointed at the TV and BANG! He was so traumatized by what he had almost done, he got rid of the gun the next day, and never touched another.
Oh my! That would have made me crazy for sure.

I'm afraid the only thing this proves is you can't fix stupid.

On of the first things anybody that has been properly trained to handle a firearm learns is NEVER point it at yourself or anybody else unless you fully intend to shoot that person.

Rules

1. always assume the gun is loaded

2. never point a gun at ANYONE

3. never point the gun at yourself

4. when handling a gun, drop the magazine, check the chamber, and "dry fire" to the ground

My kids have handled guns since they were five. They always follow safety rules and will never have a problem. Keep in mind that we hunt on rough terrain and often AT NIGHT without event.

Idiots will do idiotic things. That what makes them idiots. Keep in mind that over half of the population voted for Obama, so we can expect people to do odd things which defy common sense.
Sadly, another perfect example here:

Sharon Herald : Father

As noted in the article, apparently this a common mistake gun owners make.
Lack of training? Simple stupidity?

300 million people in America, are you going to post every incident involving guns? How about those where a gun saved a law abiding person. Thread is so stupid.

He was one stupid SOB, I think. Anyone with a brain knows that you don't show off like that. Surely he didn't need to have any ammo to put in there and obviously did.

When will we learn that he got that massacre thing backwards and although wanted to kill himself he forgot the first part?
