Being a fiscally conservative and socially liberal person, I feel the Grand Old Party will soon be relegated to a forever minority party.
I feel republicans should have a direction change or at least a course correction on following
1. Guns : we need a lot of controls. Republican party should look at regulating. I am not suggesting 2nd amendment scrapping or taking away peoples guns, but a meaningful control. People should be checked for mental issues, background checks,reference checks etc. GOP should not buck to NRA.
2. Gays : Gone are the days where gays would be burnt alive. This is new age, gays have rights and it wont change soon. GOP is still stuck in 16th century mentality here.
3. Abortion : Pro life goof jobs (Akin,Mourdok) and few others have completely hijacked the pro-life. Abortion is a sensitive issue and according to me it should be left to woman who actually get pregnant and go thru hell for 9 months. No religion or political party actually has right to dictate here. (Bible or Koran or others cannot dictate free will)
4.Immigration: This is an issue on which Democrats have done nothing of substance. But they have been successful in painting GOP as fear mongering, hispanic hating, deportation crazy party. Here GOP needs a brand makeover.
There are 2 choices here for the above
a. Ignore the reality and continue doing what GOP did for last few decades and get relegated to the dustbin of history
b. make changes with regards to the above issues.

1. Guns are bad and kill people, mean (scary looking) guns should be illegal, and only good nice guns are ok for maybe some people, after all there are ~13,000 gun murders each year.
2. Women should have the right to murder their unborn child, after all it's a womans body, each year there are only 1,210,000 abortions (murders) and since the child wasn't born yet, it's not really a living being, regardless if it has a little heart that is pumping blood, or sucking it's thumb.
I mean you got to admit, this really is a huge contradicition.

1. While I agree that those who purchase/own guns should have background checks and safety courses to own them many on the left would really like to see them banned altogether and that does violate our 2nd amendment rights.
2. The GOP does not oppose gay rights per se. They just don't agree with traditional marriage for them. Since our country is based on Christianity and the bible speaks out against sex between the same sexes then just who is on the wrong side of this issue?
3. We will just have to agree to disagree that a woman should have the right to kill her unborn child. She lost her rights when she had unprotected sex and a human being was conceived. The only exception should be if the mother's life were to be in danger by giving birth. I would put her rights at the front of the line then.

Cave into another amnesty when that isn't in the best interests of this country just to pander to the Hispanic voter? The current approach of the GOP seems to be to wildly run around like a leprechaun on crack while
- pointing fingers,
- assigning blame,
- yell that we are all morally corrupt, lazy slackers,
- accuse anyone and anything even slightly directed at improving our society as a whole as communists, socialists, and fascists,
- paint anyone non-white as an illegal trying to suck at the teat of our bleeding-heart government,
- claim that we're trying to destroy the nation by not allowing absolutely everybody to own assault rifles,
- pretend that women are too stupid to make their own medical decisions.
- blame everything and anything bad that happens on non-Christians/Progressives/Atheists/Liberals.
None of that sounds like any party I would ever consider voting for.
But they won't change. There will always be those who long for the "good old times" when white man had absolute power because they knew what was best for all of us. Look at the recent gun discussion and take note of the many, many hoo-rah-I-will-kick-your-azz-or-worse cavemen that are still out there.
And that is the problem of the GOP: While there are many "normal" and intelligent conservatives out there, the GOP has become a safe heaven for every anti-social, theocracy-wanting nutjob out there. They have corrupted the GOP and unless the GOP works VERY hard to substantially distance itself from those types, they are doomed.

The majority of Republicans aren't teaparty members even those like you would like to claim it so you can demonize the entire right. The teaparty's agenda is fiscal responsibility but the left has picked out a few radicals about other issues whom they don't even embrace to also stereotype the whole organization in that way.
