Nope.

An assault rifle is a selective fire rifle, with the option of automatic fire.
One pull of the finger, many bullets fired at once.

Semi-auto means one pull, one bullet.

So any semi-auto is an assault weapon? Regardless if it can not shoot full auto? Is that what you think? No wonder we cant have a real conversation, people that know nothing about what they want controlled. You are using incorrect terms, you dont even comprehend how a gun funtions to qualify for that definition. If it goes bang and looks scary thats all you need to know. Do you think all autistic people are gun nut killers too.

Whatever the specific manufacturer/distributor of the Newtown weapon is, it is a "selective-fire firearm capable of fully automatic, semiautomatic or burst fire at the option of the user" and therefore - in theory - banned in Connecticut.

Stick to what you know, like Justin Beiber's new hair style or something.
Fine. Then the second part of the sentence kicks in:
1. Any selective-fire firearm capable of fully automatic, semiautomatic or burst fire at the option of the user or any of the following specified semiautomatic firearms:
In the list of specified semiautomatic firearms appears the COLT AR-15. According to news reports, the weapon used in the Newtown massacre was a Bushmaster AR-15. It makes no sense that a COLT AR-15 would be considered a prohibited assault weapon, but a Bushmaster AR-15 would not.

From the Wikipedia entry for the AR-15:
The AR-15 was first built by ArmaLite as a selective fire rifle for the United States armed forces. Because of financial problems, ArmaLite sold the AR-15 design to Colt. The select-fire AR-15 entered the US military system as the M16 rifle. Colt then marketed the Colt AR-15 as a semi-automatic version of the M16 rifle for civilian sales in 1963. Although the name "AR-15" remains a Colt registered trademark, variants of the firearm are independently made, modified and sold under various names by multiple manufacturers.
