Texas State Rep. Kyle Kacal says ping pong is more dangerous than guns and guns shouldn't be locked up because then the bad guys know everyone's gun is locked up.
Kacal said he wouldn't support a proposed bill instructing residents how to secure their assault weapons.
"People know what they need to do to be safe. We don't need to legislate that -- it's common sense," he said. "Once everyone's gun is locked up, then the bad guys know everyone's gun is locked up."
Kacal echoed a common nationwide argument that guns don't kill people, people kill people.
"I've heard of people being killed playing ping-pong -- ping-pongs are more dangerous than guns," he said. "Flat-screen TVs are injuring more kids today than anything."
Don't be angry. He just learned how to read 'See Spot Run'. I bet in a few years he'll be wearing cut-off shorts while humming Lady Gaga tunes.....the truth has that affect on people i.e. it breaks down preconceived prejudices
The RW seems very concerned about possible new controls on guns. They want us to know everything is dangerous. They don't want to talk about guns, specifically.

While his comments are ignorant (if those are in fact his contextually correct comments as the writer has chosen to represent them), the fact remains that overall deaths due to guns are very low (less than 1/4 of 1 percent of the population). Over half of such are due to suicides and only around 2% are assault rifle (below that of knife homicides).
We don't have a gun problem generally, while there may be some specific rate of increased gun violence in certain locales, we can not properly attribute the cause to that of guns themselves due to the fact that the occurrences and number of guns are not even remotely consistent between locales (suggesting some other driving factor).
So, people concerned about controls on guns when there isn't a gun problem and the occurrence of such tends to be far below any statistical significance to attribute any specific causation. So yes, people should be concerned about the controls as they are not properly supported to their intended solution.
