I wonder what the opinion of all the posters who are wanting to restrict or ban guns think about this topic? I mean, if you want to give up various things for the feeling of protection, games and movies are a much more logical item to address.
Banning imaginary guns is more logical than banning real guns? Huh?
In wake of the latest tragedy, we should just ban violent video games and independently regulate violence in movies and TV.
It is no secret that TV and movies can be used to shape how people think. No? Then explain this: why does advertising work and why are 10s of billions spent on it (hell a billion in ads were spent in just one election!!!)? So it follows when the general public is constantly fed ultra-graphic realistic violence that we see a steady trend up in real violence.
As for video games the same thing goes. Only that now the person absorbing the entertainment is now actively participating in the violence. In a sense, training for it.
Couple this with people with mental illness who, by definition, cannot sort out reality from their own perceptions, coupling this with today's media is just a recipe for disaster.
So, obviously, if we want a less violent society, we need to address the roots of it, not just the periphery incidental items.
That means your gonna have to ban threating people esp politicians

It's troubling to me that you would defend the freedoms of the 2A by trampling over those of the 1st.
Instead of banning those videos for everyone--- how about parents exert some control and stop their boys from playing violent video games an average of 13 hours a week? Is there anything parents can manage to do in this country other than call on government and schools and now armed guards to teach and control their children?
And regulate the hell out of the internet? I agree regular TV should be monitored. Cable on the other hand is not the same, it is a product that I purchase, so regulation would be a tad different? I believe many commercials are not appropriate such as Trojan and Viagra adds. There is the V-chip on TVs that allow an adult to filter the tube for lockouts. I believe violent video games are now rated for purchase? As far as regulating the making of movies for violent content would be a very tricky task. Senseless violence, history with violence....etc...One person's interpretation of violence over another's. Can of worms.
I seldom watch any movies where brains and blood have to splatter all over the wall because some clown thinks that is entertainment. Watching the westerns of the early days was not so bad since when a trigger was squeezed and someone fell down you knew he had been shot. Today you have to have splattered blood and gore. Yes, things have changed a bunch.
Now lets get in the argument progs will use to say that movies are ok in that the 1st Amendment allows the people of Hollywood to do what they want because of freedom of expression.
