The NRA is officially an extremist out of touch group. Stay crazy NRA.

Before the extremists accuse me of hating guns, I support the 2nd amendment. Hell, I plan on buying one eventually.

LaPierre could have been a hero in his press conference. This was his chance to get people opposed to guns on his side. Instead he just pissed people off with his arrogance

This idiocy seems to be have become characteristic of the right wing base. No matter what the issue, the answer seems to be the same. WE ARE NOT WRONG ABOUT ANYTHING, EVER! It is some other guy!

We have our minds made up! Don't trouble us with any of your librul facts!

This militantly stupid attitude is why they are circling the drain.

NRA, guns doh't kill people, video games and violent movies kill people
That evil 1st amendment has to go! Save the guns and 2nd amendment though. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if they did limit some of the violence in entertainment BUT it's laughable to think that gun control shouldn't be on the agenda as well.

Neither. The NRA became a gun manufacturing lobby decades ago.

LaPierre's comments brilliantly accomplished several things; it created another huge spike in combat gun sales, and combat guns are a huge money maker for the companies who own the NRA.

The comments also deflected the conversation away from the gun manufacturers to other industries, including the game industry, the motion picture industry, and all those 'other causes' he mentioned. Making the other guy lose is the objective of any good lobbyist.

Lastly, his call for armed police at every school was the creation of a large, new, federally mandated market for the gun industry. I noticed he used the word "several" when he brought this up. The gun industry would be tickled pink if every school had 4 armed officers, every crossing guard, every school bus driver, the teachers, and on and on. Once a bill was created, the new market could be an enormous boost to the gun industry.

LaPierre was doing what any lobbyist does, no more, no less. And he did it pretty well. The fact is the sporting arms business has been going downhill for years, but there is an abundance of wanna-be Rambos who only want to hear the noise, smell the gunsmoke, and get off on filling the air with lead. Those are where the gun market is these days. Add more professionals, and it's yum, yum, yum.
The more the NRA spreads fear among it's largest market, and the more it deflects the argument, the better it is for them. The money will keep flowing for another year with no letup.
