The Colorado Senate has approved a Civil Unions bill, 21-14.

BREAKING: Colorado Senate Approves Civil Unions Legislation | ThinkProgress

The Democrats have a 37-28 advantage in the Colorado House, where the bill is expected to pass. Governor Hickenlooper has been outspoken in his support of civil unions and will sign the bill.

Over the past several years, states that have enacted same-sex marriage laws have typically enacted civil unions a year or two prior to same-sex marriage. This suggests Colorado will probably join the ranks of states with same-sex marriage by 2015.

Small footnote: John Baird PC MP, Canadian Minister for Foreign Affairs, whose first press conference with Secretary Kerry just ended minutes ago, is almost-but-not-quite-openly gay.

No one in Canada seems to care whether he is or isn't. The most sensational media attention he ever received had nothing to do with his sexual preference; his cat, which he called "Thatcher", died and he sent out a text: "Thatcher is dead". Some assumed he meant Margaret Thatcher, and so he unintentionally sparked a rumour about the Baroness' premature demise.

So that's the state of homosexuality as a political issue north of the border. The death of the cat of a senior Conservative cabinet minister attracts more attention than whether he's gay.

Ah, but those of us who haven't really cared one way or the other about homosexuals and what they do or don't do can now have the satisfaction of knowing that they just can't divide the goodies and go their separate ways anymore, they will have to get a DIVORCE just like the heteros do!
I think that is GREAT!
Total equality! Alimony, child support, dead beat dads (or moms), the whole nine yards!
WONDERFUL!!
