Now that the GOP has proven itself to be non viable option for serious voters in real elections, it is free to let its freak flag fly and engage in nutty schemes and political fantasies. What brand of ridiculousness do you think it will come up with next?
Probably trying to control federal spending, reduce the debt and deficit, and trying to pass a permanent tax policy and try to get Harry Reid to actually agree to passing a federal budget. Oh, the horror.... the horror!!!

If they follow the pattern of other political parties in other countries then they will have about a decade in the wilderness before the current leadership and ideologies get so discredited and voters get so discouraged over constant election loses that finally new leadership is allowed to come forward with new ideas which would never have been accepted before. They need such a time out too because the boozos in charge are such massive screw ups while the rank and file back benchers are just completely insane.
As a side note this is entirely due to Republican gerrymandering as in competitive districts the crazies would never be able to dictate policy so ending Republican gerrymandering will due a huge amount to improve the country and the Republican Party itself.

Speaking g of gerrymandering. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to "reform" the electoral college in a way that would reward gerrymandering. They'd be against the popular vote and would want to do it by congressional districts.
Look at Florida. 50/50 state but Democrats only have:
24% of US congressional districts
37% of state representatives
35% of state senators.

The electoral college is statewide so there is no gerrymandering.
