I understand that you think high-talent musicians should earn the most money. I totally agree. However, talent is not what brings in the big bucks. The people you mention are nowhere near the most talented guitar players in history. They are simply the most talented POPULAR guitarists in history. There are tons of no-names out there that can beat these guys to pulp in terms of technique and creativity. However, they never got their big break so they'll never earn those millions.

That all being said, I can still recognize these guys as very very good guitarists.

around the 65k/year mark (it certainly used to I'm sure)
I don't think they have an individual player-based salary cap. Take a look at the Seattle Sounders' salary figures: Seattle Sounders Salary Data Released - Sounder At Heart

Fredy Montero broke $700k last season.

Complaining about it wreaks of sour grapes.
THIS!! If compensation was based on talent then just about every band you've ever heard of would be nonexistent. It's all about who makes money for the execs.

same applies to movie stars, singers and TV celebs
I don't think many of them are worth that amount of money. But as long as fans keep buying tickets, movies, music, and endorsed products, these celebrities will get paid this much money.

Who are you to decide how much to pay them?

Studies have been done of professional athletes like Michael Jordan. They usually conclude that superstars like him are underpaid. If he did not play for the Chicago Bulls, they would have been far less successful, sold far fewer tickets, earned much less TV revenue, etc.. His presence on the team is worth so much more than his pay.

I think it is ridiculous that no-talent celebrities like the Kardashians, Paris Hilton, etc. can earn a living at all. I certainly will do absolutely nothing to drive market demand for them. But there is no way government can or should intervene.

No kidding! But gotta hand it to them for getting their money. I personally think the Kardashians, Snookie and the rest of her Jersey Shore bunch, and ESPECIALLY PARIS HILTON are absolutely worthless! Just crap being shown on tv to dumb down the masses. However; if people want to watch it, and there is a demand for it, cool. Count me out! I'll change the channel.

Why do people buy tickets to watch this entertainment then?

Millions and millions of people volunteer to spend money on things like music, movies, and sports. Until they say "no - its too expensive" there is nothing wrong with these people earning this money.

It's more than conservative politicians signing off on these deals, it happens in every major and minor city across the nation. Note that I'm not just talking about stadiums and arenas but any venue that is taxpayer subsidized.

You aren't. Buy a different brand of shoes.

Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood (Long version!) - YouTube

I have seen/heard Stevie Ray live twice. And I bought his records (LP and CD). So I helped Stevie earn a living. I was happy to do so.

But he wasn't as popular as Justin Bieber or K$sha. I can't account for taste, but millions of people apparently are willing to help these two earn a living.

If you are going to pay, at least pay a NASCAR driver who's risking his life hitting 200 MPH and trading paint at that speed. A expert guitar player is another. As I said, that took 12 hours a day for years and years to be that good.

A high school senior who knows how to shuck and jive doesn't measure up. U.S. soldiers have to be in better shape. They sure aren't getting rich.
You mean a NASCAR driver who only turns left, never shifts gears except coming out of the pits?

Absolutely. You know why? Because the owners of the sports teams, movie studios and record labels are out to make money. They don't lose money by paying these people what they pay them, count on it.

What do you do for a profession, Kenneth? Are YOU overpaid? Should I tell your boss that you make too much money?
