How to Halt the Terrorist Money Train

Quote:
LAST month, HSBC admitted in court pleadings that it had allowed big Mexican and Colombian drug cartels to launder at least $881 million. The bank also admitted to using various schemes to move hundreds of millions of dollars to nations subject to trade sanctions, including Iran, Cuba and Sudan, in violation of the Trading With the Enemy Act. “On at least one occasion,” according to a statement by Assistant Attorney General Lanny A. Breuer, “HSBC instructed a bank in Iran on how to format payment messages so that the transactions would not be blocked or rejected by the United States.”

Those were some of the transgressions uncovered during a two-year investigation led by the Justice and Treasury Departments and acknowledged by HSBC in a settlement, known as a deferred prosecution agreement, that was filed in a federal court in December. Not a single executive was charged with a crime. Instead, the bank paid $1.9 billion in fines and forfeitures — or roughly 10 percent of the pretax profits it earned in just 2010, one of the more than five years during which it admitted to criminal conduct.

So someone rob's a bank and they go to prison, or if someone on this forum sent money to Iran, everyone would be calling for their head, but somehow, these Financial Terrorists are free to do as they please, and with nothing more than a fine that can be looked at as the cost of doing business?

When are people going to stand up against these criminals in the Banks and on Wall Street and say enough is enough? They do not care what party you are because they donate to both parties as long as they can grease they and their cronies wallets.

The rest isn’t hiding in mattresses. It’s being washed — stripped clean of information that would identify its source, then transferred from one account to another, and often moved surreptitiously through various business enterprises, until it can settle safely in a criminal’s private offshore bank account. None of this happens without help from bankers, lawyers and businessmen.
We have a lot of traitors in this country that need to be put 6 feet under.

Wachovia bank got caught five or six years ago doing the very same thing and after a hand slap Wells Fargo swalled em up and that was the end of it. Anybody wonder why the politicians don't care the drug war is being lost? LOL

Americans should be free to give money to whomever they wish. These laws restricting them are political in nature and curbs on free speech. Heavily influenced by the Israeli lobby.

Wasn't Wells Fargo one of them also suspected of laundering money for the cartels? They are a bunch of crooked SOBs! I love your analogy; rob a bank. Go to prison. Banks rob consumers. Bank gets bailed out with taxpayer money, continues it's under handed practices, and nothing happens.

I understand what your saying, but the reality is that there are a set of rules everyone is expected to follow but the financial terrorists at the top get a free pass to do as the please.

Some are above the law.

You see it over and over and over again and it shows no sign of stopping.

That's because all corporations are inherently good, and it's bad practice to punish the "job creators", since if they are in prison they can't "create jobs"

The funny thing is, we have a government that is supposed to provide for the defense and common welfare and ensure equal opportunity for all citizens, but that is not what is happening when the government is up for sale to the highest bidder.

They are supposed to provide for the defense on the foreign and domestic front at all levels.
The SEC is supposed to be the defense at the Financial Wall Street Level, and the SEC just turns a blind eye to it all knowing what is taking place until a whistle blower comes out in the open.

At that point, it becomes time for a dog and pony show where the offenders are 'fined' a measly sum that amounts to the cost of doing business and in terms of risk and profits, well worth doing it again.

We've been asleep at the wheel in this country for too long. We're (and I'm not saying you or I necessarily I mean collectively) told who to vote for. Our middle class is dwindling, as these greedy mega corporations would rather pay peanuts and slave wages to someone in another country, instead pay an American an honest wage. Yet we're stuck for the most part buying their crap, because it's hard to find "made in the USA" anymore! We continue to flex our military muscles, and have troops all over the world under the guise of "humanitarian aide" when we have more pressing issues at home. Both parties distract us with social issues, instead of focusing on the economic issues in this country.

It all comes down to this. Those who have the money have all of the power. Until that changes, nothing else will. The banksters will continue to do what they do.
