Adapt or die. That is the story of life on this planet. It is only being made expensive by spending to change things that cannot be changed. Instead of spending trillions to change things, I would rather see that money go into adapting to an ever-changing environment.

In a surprise, CO2 emissions fall to 20-year low in U.S.

CO2 emissions in U.S. drop to 20-year low - Associated Press - POLITICO.com

U.S. CO2 emissions fall to lowest first-quarter level in 20 years: EIA | Reuters

If co2 was supposed to be the biggest contributor to, whatever you want to call it...global warming/climate change....

Why do the above links state these emissions have gone down, yet the everything continues to go up?

The drop in C02 in the US is meaningless...The key word, (you said it yourself is GLOBAL.)

China is in the news these days because of extreme smog, the Chinese and a couple of other countries are undoing any progress made in the West, unfortunately.

But that doesn't mean we might as well give up on our own efforts.

Beijing residents choke in record smog levels - CNN.com

The Chinese have been importing environmental pollution equipment, much from the US. Our Company delivered many containers to east coast ports last year , all bound for China. Actually it was in 2010 or before that they started buying equipment for smoke stack clean up. They use lots of coal in their Power plants.( so does the US ). When we were at the height of the recession in the US , China was about the only ones that were buying Pollutant abatement machinery.

I assume it is the incredible number of factories and increasingly also of cars that create that mess.

I think we'll have to start working together around the world to solve the issues climate change will bring us, starting with heat leading to drought to agricultural failure.

We can't just continue to

Hilarious! So was "global cooling" in effect from 1998 until now? Was "global warming" causing the higher temps and dust bowl in the 1930s, only to be reversed by "global cooling" up until now?

You pseudo-science libs are hilarious. The plural of anecdotes does not constitute data.

highest out of only 100 or so years of data, big whoop. Planet is 4 billion years old. Even IF we were the cause and there was cause for concern, what would we be able to do about it? Nothing. To think we can change the climate is laughable.

The US has been putting out less and less pollutants each year, we aren't the biggest polluter on the planet anymore. So, what do you suppose we as Americans must give up to fix the problem? How is paying more in taxes for energy going to do anything when we as a country already are polluting less and China/India and emerging countries are the problem?

Any molecule that has infrared absorption bands is a greenhouse gas. That includes nitrogen, oxygen and water vapor. The largest contributer to greenhouse that makes this world habitable is water vapor. Now water vapor when it condenses into an aersol (a cloud) then contributes to cooling because clouds act like little mirrors reflecting sun light back into space. So do ice and snow. Stuff like this makes climate modeling a bear to do.
