It's completely moral and ethical. Anyone saying taxes are "immoral" needs to explain an alternative way for government to provide roads, services, infrastructure, etc.

I support a national sales tax and doing away with the federal income tax, but that's too forward thinking for most.

And yeah, trying to twist Jesus' words into saying "taxes are sinful" is either dishonest or ignorant.

lols. The private sector is perfectly capable of providing all services provided by government.

"Only the State obtains its revenue by coercion, by threatening dire penalties should the income not be forthcoming. That coercion is known as ‘taxation,’ although in less regularized epochs it was often known as ‘tribute.’ Taxation is theft, purely and simply even though it is theft on a grand and colossal scale which no acknowledged criminals could hope to match.”
— Murray Rothbard

And trying to twist Jesus' words to say he told people to pay their taxes show a lack of reading comphrension skills since he never said it,

And I never said Jesus said they were sinful. However, he did say tax collectors were sinful.

Well, it makes it so the end buyer has cheaper food. In total cost that is true.

No, I don't think you understand how business works. If I am wrong I would like you to show me.

How many? Can you give me a number per year, month, decade?

Taxes pay for the public things we use. If we didn't need or use public goods then we wouldn't need taxes. It would be immoral to demand things like roads, safe food, and licensed physicians and then say that paying for them via taxes is immoral because you feel like being greedy.

Looking at the ingredient list on food, most of it is fillers and not actually food. Maybe we should make only organically grown foods (veggies, fruit, meats) that have no additives tax exempt so people would use the status as an incentive to eat better.

Thanks for your informative addition to the discussion.

It turns out that KS gives tax rebates on food sales tax to lower income families.

So really, it's more about the taxation mechanism and there are currently efforts to make things simpler by lowering or removing the food sales tax and then they would have to close the budget hole by presumably increasing taxes elsewhere.

As a KS taxpayer I would be fine with having a higher taxation rate for incomes above that breakpoint and removing the sales tax on food.

It's all 1/2 dozen of one and 6 of another.

Should homeowners pay national sales tax on their housing consumption or should homeowners get a pass while renters pay national sales tax up the wazoo?

BZZT! Brownback eliminated the rebate as part of his 'tax cuts'.

Kansas has offered a food sales tax rebate for low-income residents and those with disabilities because it was seen as the best way to mitigate the effect of sales taxes on low-income families. But that rebate program was eliminated under Brownback’s tax cuts.

This is a good example of the extremism going on in the Republican party these days. It's so far off the cliff to the right that it's outside any sphere of rational thought. Those of us who enjoy civilization shouldn't even engage people who think taxes are immoral or theft. It's a completely anti-social talking point.
