Not a big fan of the tax-dodger at all. HOWEVER, back when Bush was President and he (Bush) spoke at the United Nations, Rangel was the first one to defend Bush after Chavez insulted him at the UN (while the UN applauded).
Here is what Rangel said:
"If there's any criticism of President Bush, it should be restricted to Americans, whether they voted for him or not," Rangel said at a Washington news conference.
"I just want to make it abundantly clear to Hugo Chavez or any other president: Don't come to the United States and think, because we have problems with our president, that any foreigner can come to our country and not think that Americans do not feel offended when you offend our chief of state," Rangel said.
"Hugo Chavez abused the privilege that he had speaking at the United Nations," Pelosi said. "In doing so, in the manner which he characterized the president, he demeaned himself and demeaned Venezuela."
He's been in the House of Representatives for over 40 years! Some people must like him. Do you?
You have to respect his service to the country. I also find him, unlike many pols,to be somewhat personally likeable. He has also,to his credit, fought against drugs throughout his time in office.
Do I agree with many,or hardly any of his votes or positions? No. But kind of like Barney Frank,he is a character who I would miss seeing around.
Don't know him. Don't really know much about his positions. He's not my representative, so it really doesn't matter. It only matters if Harlemites like him.
He's got one hell of a military record...I know that much. On that alone, he deserves some reverence. He should've never survived his ordeal in Korea, let alone led a whole platoon out of there. He's a hell of a man for that.
