I have a niece who is a Pharmacist. She's barely 30 years old and making 150K a year. She has made it clear she's not interested in getting married, but she got pregnant from some dude she met at her gym. Not interested in marrying him. I told her straight out to remember she's a Catholic and if her Mom won't tell her I will, since I'm her Godfather. Now of course they are both mad at me. Such BS.

In another thread it was stated that there is a reason that the Muslims are gaining, and too, the Hispanics. The way things are now, fewer Americans are marrying and having children, and educated couples in all likelihood won't produce as much offspring as traditional, religious peoples of other countries. You cannot compete with that on a global scale going forward. But what's a man to do with the way the courts are setup? Marriage offers no protection for them, and having a kid subjects you to the Court's whim. If they decide to get married, then that's fine for them. Only time will tell.

How does the joke go? People who marry for the sex are like people who buy an airlplane ticket for the peanuts.

Move to the Netherlands. The laws are significantly more fair and they hire Americans. Once you become a permanent citizen you have to pay regular tax rates though 52% OUCH! . 15% divorce rate, but even though they speak english you will have to learn dutch .

It's not difficult to understand. Men don't need to get married to have sexual relationships anymore. "Why buy the cow when the milk is free?", etc. Men are in a much more vulnerable position in marriage today, since they are not necessary for their wives' financial security or social status. Despite the desire for marriage expressed by many women, few show any signs of being capable of long-term commitments. 67 percent of divorces are initiated by wives, most for frivolous reasons.

But it's not all women's fault. Men really don't have to grow up anymore, and so they aren't growing up. By some accounts more than 70 percent of men are addicted to pornography. Nevermind video games. And what kind of woman wants to marry a thirty-something video-game addict who doesn't even own a tie?
I didn't meet my fiancee until I was 33, more young people are waiting till their late 20s or early 30s to get married and there is nothing wrong with that.

That all sounds wonderful, I love the Netherlands.

You will find that marriage - and child-rearing in marriage - remains strongest precisely among the well-educated upper-middle class. It is among the lower-middle, which only a few decades ago distinguished itself from the lower classes by adopting "respectable" behaviours like marriage, that the decline is most notable. Far from a decline in upper-middle class legitimate births, that is the only class in America where birth in wedlock is holding steady.

Here is the answer from an older guy.

I was once married, and we had 2 beautiful children. Then she decided she, "Didn't love me the way a wife should love a husband".

Enter divorce court. I got the kids, the cats, and the house, (Listed in order of priority). My heart was torn out, and I swore never EVER to let it happen again.

Why would any sane person in the world want to go through that, let alone let their children suffer not having 2 parents.

I realize, SOME people should never get married, but, the truth is, it's too easy to get a divorce, so instead of working things out, people just split. I would have done almost anything to keep us together, but that wasn't what she wanted. She just had to get a divorce so she could marry the guy who had a wife and 3 children, but didn't want to support them any more.

End result, I never re-married, (Who wants to go through all that again), and she married and divorced again, and with all that happened, she now has nothing. She even pawned off the gifts I gave her while we were married, such as the musical instrument like she had while growing up, that cost me 500$, (Back in 1985).

Shrug, I'll never do it again.

BTW, I have a nice job, own my own home, own my car outright, have less than 2K in credit card debt, owes less than 100K on the mortgage, no other debts, AND, I get to spend almost every evening with my granddaughter. I don't have to answer to anyone but myself, and I will never ever re-marry.

Proof that education and income doesn't provide someone with emotional intelligence. A pharmacist of all people should know how to successfully use birth control, perhaps she wanted to get pregnant by the fine specimen from the gym. What if he wants to claim the kid and starts trouble for her single mom plan?

A lot of women now seem to prefer substituting babies for spouses, then treating the children like partners instead of children.

She's a disappointment to me. She was shown a lot of love and was provided very well for when she was growing up. Her Dad was a fantastic guy, died at 55 of a heart attack-very sad. He would be going nuclear right now if he saw this going on. She's a very smart girl who apparently didn't pick up the morals that were taught and demonstrated right in front of her. Either she is talking about the material stuff she buys or now the baby.

Sorry for the rant.
