I personally think this is a great idea [MOD CUT] These armored vehicles will prevent harm from being inflicted upon the officers who ride in them. [MOD CUT/off topic]
Cops unleash armored ‘beast’ for patrols

Miliitarization of local police departments is never a good thing.

This is not a good thing.
The further militarization of our police is NOT a good thing.

You seem to think tools of violence adopted by police are to be used against minorities.

2 Things.

1. That smacks of racism
2. Any tool of law enforcement may and eventually will be used against all levels of society.

Think of all the atrocities committed against American Citizens in the name of the War on Drugs.

Are police really being shot at in their vehicles so frequently in this area to justify this? There is no mention of that in the article linked.

This is scary. Not a good thing.

Isnt that theme song kicking it.

How are police to protect themselves against these people committing acts of violence in these warzone neighborhoods?

In very high crime areas, The police need some further measure of protection themselves. It's not uncommon criminals taking potshots at patrol cars. As much as I enjoy a good conspiracy theory this is just a tool to combat crime in enclosed areas. This is not judge Dredd doling out sentences in the street. When they impose national martial law out of the blue I will worry then.

Those things worked very well for South Africa/Zimbabwe didn't they?

The world got to see first hand how a racist, apartheid adherent nation resorting to using armoured personnel carriers to control it's population was sliding into chaos and violence.

Stands to reason an Old Vet would think this a good idea to stimulate (incite?) interest on the part of young people in the modern military. Sheesh!

Americans should have the constitutional right to drive their own assault vehicles to protect against any remote yet potential tyranny by the state, to protect their families against any bad guys driving illegal assault vehicles, and the more likely scenario of zombie apocalypse. Before you know it everyone will be driving assault vehicles to the mall and to and from school.
