I have gotten flu shots for most of 20 years. One of the few years I skipped, I came down with N1H1, which was making the rounds in September. I had not gotten one the previous year, either, so I was hit full force.
I damn near died. I had broken 2 ribs about 6 weeks earlier, and they were well on the mend, but I coughed so hard I re-broke both of them, and I was totally down until early December.
I know there are side effects to the vaccines. I've never suffered any, thankfully, except for a day or so after getting a shot. I just don't feel so hot sometimes, and that's all.
But locally this year, 3 people I know died from the flu. One was a very fit young man of 18, and another was a 39 year old woman who was always in good health. I guess it's up to the individual, but it looks to me that this year's virus is more dangerous than some in the past, and I got a shot this week. I would rather be up and going than down with the flu, no matter how severe or mild it is in a particular year.
I got the flu shot this year and haven't gotten sick yet for the first time in a long time, I usually get sick Christmas week.
I think everyone is different. If it works for you, I think that's great. But for me, it made me sick when I'm normally healthy. I guess the moral of the story is why did I ever get the shot? Because DW said so
The flu can kill many people, especially the very young and the elderly. People, who are coming down with the flu, can actually spread the virus for 24 hours before they are symptomatic.
If you don't want the flu shot for yourself, get it anyway so that you do not become an "incubator" of flu germs that could kill others.

However, the most deadly of them all is ignorance!
