How will they "earn" it? They will be immediately legalized. Those committing ID theft and fraud will be absolved, never to face as much as a slap on the wrist, while their victims are left with no legal recourse. Illegal employers will also get a fee pass. Does that sound fair to you?

But, they have no intentions of securing our border with Mexico. Of course, they'll promise, as they did in 1986. But, it will never happen. For one, far too many powerful people are profiting from the illegal drug trade, and even more are reaping huge profits from cheap, illegal labor. Amnesty this group, and they will only be replaced by others. Do you actually believe unscrupulous employers will suddenly become law-abiding with the stroke of a pen? Not in a million years. Nor will their employees who enjoy a tax-free lifestyle.
Who mentioned deportation? I certainly didn't. No, if we enforce our current laws, most will leave. After all, if they can't work here, why would they stay?

Answer: it's valuable as a wedge issue against democrats - so keep it out there in reserve. Complain about the issue when out of power - otherwise you got little else.

Look fella, the GOP is good at coming up with plans (Heritage foundation sponsored health care, DREAM Act, etc) they just will never implement them because god forbid middle class and poor Americans could benefit. Actually if it involves tax cuts for the rich or corporate subsidies then yes the GOP will speed it up. It takes Democrats to pass an act that benefits middle class folks. Obama attempted to pass the previously GOP endorsed DREAM Act in his first term but the Republicans filibustered it.
One just can't trust their GOP in these areas anymore, not after their intense anti immigrant stance in the election cycle. As your dear GOP president Dubya once said:
