It does not surprise me that they are trying to distort the message of MLK. It is what conservatives excel at, rewriting history and distorting the truth. Their version of Jesus is a blond haired, blue eyed Jewish guy who hated Muslims and would surely be pro-war were Jesus alive today. Find a mainstream Christian church in America against these wars of aggression today, as there are few out there.

It is easy to mold the minds of those with little knowledge in them.

That's like saying to understand Malcolm X, we should ask Farrakhan. Jesse Jackson's entire livelihood depends on fomenting race unrest. His became a different path after the assassination.

Why was King a staunch Republican?

Maybe he understood something the majority of African Americans do not.

What's wrong with holding King in great esteem? Isn't it ridiculous to think that you have to be of the right color, or party, to consider his aspirations righteous?

All I hear are the same blowhards using any excuse to vent their racist views. I do know if King read these forums he'd be insensed.

But those who marched with King and studied his work say that notion is absurd. The political class that once opposed King, they argue, is now trying to distort his message.
King's most famous words are the crux of the disagreement.

"He was against all policies based on race," says Peter Schramm, a conservative historian. "The basis of his attack on segregation was 'judge us by the content of our character, not by the color of our skin.' That's a profound moral argument."

Taylor Branch, the Pulitzer Prize winning author of a trilogy on King, says some conservatives are invoking a phantom version of King to avoid dealing with contemporary racial issues.
Why conservatives call MLK their hero - CNN.com
The left lies unabashedly and unashamedly which is why I despise them.
They constantly attempt to re-write history to favor their political agenda.

MLK preached a color-blind society, which is anathema to the constant race baiting and slanderous racist label they apply to anyone who doesn't march to their tune.

As much as you smack yourself in the head it's no wonder you can't think straight.

Thank you. Short but to the point and spot on.

BTW, how did MLK die?
Beyond the gun thing, he was assassinated while he was in Memphis to support the city's African American sanitation workers--they were striking as part of a fight to be able to form and join a union. In the years before his death, King focused a great deal of his efforts on working to unite the civil rights and labor movements. He believed that true equalilty would never happen without economic equality. Doesn't sound very republican to me , although many conservatives out my way (in the midwest/great plains) aren't as anti union as the rest of the country.

Oh yea, the conservative answer to this is that early on MLK was a Republican but later in life he starting wavering and acting more like a Democrat.

Incidentally this is exactly what they say about Reagan...in early Presidency he was a more true Republican, but when he started raising taxes later in the presidency and later in life especially when he advocated an assault rifle ban..the man was shot once before!...he was more of a Democrat and they dont respect him much.

Masters of Deception, these Republicans.

No 11/6 proved the mastery was an illusion. America saw through it.

I do agree with the rest of your post.

You obviously don't understand the history of Malcolm Shabazz... If you did you wouldn't have made such a comparison... Malcolm & Farrakhan were the right and left hand of Elijah Muhammad. Jesse Jackson's relationship with Dr. King was completely different. I would also be curious for you to explain in detail the different path Jesse took after the assassination. I seriously doubt you are a learned individual when it comes to black history... I'm willing to have that debt if you believe you're ready...
