I'm sure it is celebrated by select groups but not enough to make it a national holiday.

MLK was a commie, and our "founding fathers" weren't! Heck, the founding fathers owned slaves, and that's about as capitalistic as one can get! You can't exploit labor for some capital any better than owning your labor as property, am I right? Anyway, I liked it better when Columbus Day was celebrated. He was a white man, right? I mean, isn't that what this thread is about? If it ain't white, it ain't right......YEEEEHAAAAAAW!

No, the fact that they passed a law making it a national holiday makes it a national holiday.

J Edgar Hoover kept a file on everyone including the president and his entire cabinet. What is your point ?

Well, I may be odd man out, but I wanted my children to know about Martin Luther King. All people were created equally in my family's eyes, and we act accordingly. But then, I am also the conservative freak on the Trayvon Martin thread who thinks that George Zimmerman is guilty and that Martin's shooting is a tragedy. The very people I butt heads with on that thread I rep here.

Well she will be 21 then and won't be my responsibility but she will never be allowed in my home ever again.

That only happens to parents who 1. Don't teach their kids correctly and 2. Don't care who their kids hang out with or who they are influenced by. Parents should be their kids influence.
Hmm, I'm teaching my kids not to judge people based on looks, but rather to judge them on their behavior. I'd say that's teaching them correctly.

Oddly enough, I do care who my kids hang out with. For instance, I wouldn't let them hang out with you...
