Not in most of the Western world, where the issue has already been resolved. Abortion is legal and will stay that way.

You brought up a very good point. Have you noticed how many religious nutjobs just ADORE fighting for laws and legislation to control other people's private sexual activities, and to control whatever others want to do to their own body? There's something really really wacko about all that pseudo-concern over other people's bodies.

Janelle, do you think making abortion illegal will reduce abortions? Why are the lowest abortion rates on earth in ultra liberal, western europe where abortion and family planning services are plentiful?

Default Interesting comments---not enough children to sustain our economy now

Wonder what 55 milion more Americans working would do for our economy? What special child would have been born that might have done some amazing things to help mankind? Life is always better than death!

  • Richard Beckwith </SPAN>Bill Lee • a day ago The primaryfocus is on the fundamental human rights issue (and note how the only ones who favor abortion are those who were already born!). But your economic question is also relevant in today’s world. National Right to Life estimated, as of 2008, if abortion had not been legal since 1973, 17 million more people would have been employed, whose earnings would have contributed $11 billion to Medicare, $47.5 billion to Soc. Security, which would have resulted in millions more people being able to receive Social Security benefits and Medicare Hospital Insurance.

Ever wonder how many of those 55 million would be unemployed in this economy? How many would be on welfare? How many would be in jail?

How many would have jobs that pay into our system, how many would be doctors and nurses, now many would be researchers for cures to diseases.

That's technically correct, in theory, until you see the unemployment rate we have. Do you have any reason to believe the abortions were carried out by wealthy women?

There was a recent thread that stated a sizable number of nursing graduates can't find jobs.

Who says only wealthy people have children who are doctors and in the medical field? Many sucessful people come from poor beginnings.

Considering that there are currently 3 applicants for every job, I would say not many, unless there were more EXISTING people that were out of work. No jobs now, adding 55 million more people to the equation doesn't make more jobs, it just means more people without jobs.
