Are they willing to pay back all the money the fool earned during his career? He got paid well to have his head bashed in. Was he too dumb to know he was getting his head bashed in? Damn! I knew football people weren't the brightest. It's worse than I thought.

It goes back much further than the 1920's. King James I of England (of King James Bible fame) published A Counterblaste to Tobacco in 1604.

It will be interesting to watch how this proceeds. Keep in mind that unlike tobacco, football participation is introduced at the high school (or even younger) level, and sponsored/promoted by gov't owned and operated public schools. This is a looming minefield for the vast left wing nannyist conspiracy.

Yes and high schools and pee wee leagues don't have the money to pay out some lawsuit by some idiot parents who decide it's the schools fault little johnny got a concussion. Heck there are punters who have joined into the NFL lawsuit.

The CBA is what holds the cards. I didn't see any players squealing about concussions during the lockout. All they wanted was money. Heck they didn't even get any money for the old retired vets who actually didn't have the type of equipment provided to today's players. The NFL gives these guys the best equipment, doctors, trainers, facilities, etc. money can buy. If they were so worried about problems with concussions why wasn't that brought up during the last CBA? All they saw was money is why. Now they see more.

I'm talking medical science proof not cultural anti smoking treatises as ovo asked for evidence.

The US government was very complicit in promoting smoking/tobacco use for about the first 175years of our country's existence. Not until the 1950's post Korea did it really start to get out of the Tobacco promotion business.

In this country if bad things happen to you it's someone else's fault, somebody must pay. If good things happen to you because you worked hard you have to pay you didn't really build that, the collective did.

You can't win.

Yup best believe the lawyers are salivating. My guess is that it will never get to trial, the class action portion but the lawyers will leverage the very real possibility the NFL loses to extract a generous settlement.

It's all a big scam but hey among one of these ambulance chasing lawyers a future presidential democrat candidate may emerge.

haha, no a VP candidate. If there is a divinity school dropout/Senator/former tobacco farmer out there railing against the NFL, the top spot will be reserved for him. The trial lawyer will gets to be #2 dog.

John Edwards is most likely kicking himself for missing out on this gravy train.
