Good use of stereotypes. Do you think all young black males wear hoodies and steal too?

The posts here illustrate why the GOP is thankfully fading away, shot by its own gun obama is trying to take away. . .

Nu-republicanism is based on a utopian vision if the way it should be, and republican lite(Dems) is based on the way it is.
Until the repubs wake up to the fact that Mayberry R.F.D. might have been a great TV show, but not a good thing to base a political platform on, they will continue do an imitation of the Titanic.

Dunno about their taste in fashion, but the fact is that rural poverty is definitely on the increase these days!

Yes, hypocrital remarks from the one you are replying to. Funny how he didn't mentioned that Hispanics have the highest school dropout rates in this country instead he chose to mention rural youth instead which are dominated by whites. Funny how illegal immigrants can easily find low paying jobs. Oh, that's right they work for less than Americans.

Agree. And to add, there have been surveys over time regarding the religous attitudes of the younger generations by Time or Newsweek, and the church attendance is declining quickly. From what I remember they polled the 18-30 year old crowd every decade since 1970 about how often do they attend church or how important is religion to you. 1970, 1980 and 1990 still had fairly sizeable amounts of young voters that thought religion was 'still relevant' and 'attended at least on holidays'. By the 2000 it dropped; and by 2010 there was just a small percentage (polled) that had those same views. I think it will be tough for the party to survive if they keep such a strong alliance with the religious right. Most of the voters I know that support the Republicans do so because of the tax policies, immigration, and private property type rights. The religious people I know that vote say they don't like the Republicans because they aren't extreme enough---but vote for them because the other option is way worse. To them the Republicans may not be on a pro-Christian path, but not really on an anti-Christian path---which is how they view the Democrats.

This is a classic example of why the GOP is headed toward being irrelevant.

FYI, I have nothing against unions so stick that in your pipe and smoke it. Free Market does not overule our immigration laws nor should it. Only an idiot would erase our borders and allow all kinds of foreigners to come her unabated and compete for jobs and resources against our own citizens.

Funny how the left always complains about the rich and yet you want to give them their cheap, foreign labor so they can get richer?

The media has not shifted left. If anything there has been a major shift to the right in the last 30 years.

Changing population demographics are obviously benefiting Democrats and marginalizing conservative rural voters, but in the end regardless whether Dem or Republican, we're all really paying for the growing federal dependency of rural white voters... who as we know, are still the largest consumers of welfare.

Of course part of the problem is the GOP benefits from maintaining the rural/urban ''divide'' (by cultivating ''resentments'', the ''culture wars'', ''flyover country'', etc.), even if those same benefits offer ''diminishing returns''. But as with the ''rust belt'' phenomenon, new technology and education are key these days to adapting to the ''new economy''. And instead of writing off rural whites or waiting for the GOP to make more inroads among cities and minorities, Dems could help break the cycle of poverty (and ignorance), by bringing more tech to the ''country'', for example with entry-level green tech job opportunities & training. And today's trained cable internet, wind farm and solar panel installer, could also be tomorrow's rural progressive voter.
It is possible, but the key to rural adaption is to wait out the older rural residents lifespans. As Jimmy John Jr hits his 30s and 40s, watches his ex classmates who studied as they moved away, progressed into educated citizens at middle class or above jobs, and he is still struggling to find a local job at Dollar General or like stores for 24 hours a week at minimum wage. Living as a border in a broken down tiny home of a stranger. That how did my classmate make it, but I failed moment, when his parents are not around to tell him the facts aren't the facts, will move even the more rual backwards sections into the 21st century.
