"Conservative"used to mean small government and low taxes. It now implies big debt, big government and wars of expansion.
"Conservative" still means small govenment, low taxes, and freedom with its resulting responsibility and consequences. Its definition hasn't changed.
The Republican party used to support conservatism, but in the last fifty years has swung more and more to supporting government control of formerly-private functions and lives. THAT is what has changed... not conservatism itself.
