I know most people under 30 are trying to get away from being car-dependent. While I think walkable neighborhoods are cool, I would hate to be at the mercy of public transportation or air travel if I wanted to go anywhere.
Being car-dependent only becomes a restriction in the event of a massive oil shock. In such a situation, being too far from most of your day to day necessities to walk, it could create a major problem.

Actually, when someone sits behind the wheel of their car, their territorial nature in their psyche surfaces greater than usual, causing the many angry drivers you see flipping each other off/road rage/the attitude of getting the parking space before the other guy/driving too offensively/speeding/etc.....so, the car actually does render a person dependent to the whims of it. We become its servant, instead of the owner. Psychology is cool, isn't it.

conservative- doesn't understand economics/evolution/climate change/the word "equality"
Pro-life- doesn't understand that prochoice doesn't mean anything abortion, but only that a woman should decide concerning her body
PC- think and try to trace your unconscious psyche to maybe understand why your words show hidden meanings relating to racist/sexist/intolerantly latent thoughts

That's your projection of "political correctness", though. Why not pick up that turd from the clean end, and try to wonder just why a turd is in the clean end? This is a problem with conservatives, I know.....having to think deeply, that is.

Especially the dimestore type.
The driver controls the vehicle. Responsible drivers make good choices, irresponsible drivers make poor choices.

Your lack of understanding of how a driver can become overwhelmed by their unconscious need to be in control of all situations.....is quite telling. When we are boxed into a car it can conjure up and then exasperate these feelings of absolute control, due to the person being in their private space(car) and then taking that private space(car) out onto a public space(the road). Take a drive around the town/interstate/wherever today and be amazed at what you may see with your own eyes and an open mind. Responsible drivers can become irresponsible drivers very quickly. But, i'm sure you already knew this, didn't ya Also, don't worry about paying me the dime.....just knowing that you now have a bit more knowledge is payment enough!
