You suggested more prisons, longer prison terms, etc. We already have that, and it doesn't seem to be improving things. Some of the countries with the lowest populations in prison are among the safest.

There is basically no correlation. So building more prisons isn't the solution to our gun violence problem either.
You apparently have no idea how prison system work. Longer sentencing <> longer time served. For example, in general you can be out in 8 years for murder which is typically 25-life sentence. Robbery and rape? 2-3 years max.

How do you know this.

It seems like 'intent' can be painted in any direction people choose to serve their cause.

It was written in the federalists paper.

Funny-- Having worked in one years ago, I know exactly how they work. Where are you getting your information? Rape? 2-3 years max? Try again.

Watch less Fox, and do some of your own research.

And your argument doesn't change the fact that we already have the largest prison population on Earth (per capita and sum total, I believe) and that we have a problem with violent gun crime...

Do you actually want to talk about this or do you just want to throw out anti-gun talking points that you don't even understand?

I can't stand wasting my time trying to talk to someone who throws out hand grenades, nukes or howitzers when the conversation is about home and self defense.

Some would say that people who feel the need to own AR-15 or even more deadly weapon and 30 round magazines are on the fringe. Over half the US population wants to reinstate the assault weapons ban, so I would certainly surmise that's not a "fringe" belief.

Good luck.

Got down to earth man. It is how the liberal wanted it. The sentencing may be long but the average time served is pathetic at best.

This is no longer true. Read up. Research. Learn.

Start here: The High Cost of Long Prison Terms - Pew

Quote:
Over the past 40 years, criminal justice policy in the U.S. was shaped by the belief that the best way to protect the public was to put more people in prison. Offenders, the reasoning went, should spend longer and longer time behind bars.

Consequently, offenders have been spending more time in prison. According to a new study by Pew’s Public Safety Performance Project, the length of time served in prison has increased markedly over the last two decades. Prisoners released in 2009 served an average of nine additional months in custody, or 36 percent longer, than offenders released in 1990.
Learn the difference between what you want to be true to fit your world view, and what actually is true.
