To me it sounds like a case for the mother to carry a gun.

We don't do anything after these tragedies because gun nuts and more importantly gun manufacturers and sellers, need to keep gun nuts terrified so they'll buy more guns.
It is reported that like 20% of gun owners in this nation own 65% of all guns in this nation.
Our government manages to keep all sorts of weapons out of the hands of criminals. So there is objective reality that they can prevent certain weapons for the most part from getting to criminals.
Yet gun nuts lie and say the government can't prevent criminals from getting guns.
What gun nuts mean is that what the government would have to do to ensure that criminals didn't get their hands on guns would infringe upon their rights to have access to guns.
They aren't willing to have it be much more difficult to get guns so the government can truly control the flow of guns and prevent criminals from getting them. This is the basic reality of the situation.
So we waste time talking to these lying frauds as if they are actually interested in lowering gun violence. Their main goal is selling guns and having access to guns so they can one day fight the government or live out their fantasy of shooting the bad guys, the consequences be damned.

Yeah, the gun was just there as a prop. Thanks for clearing that up. People with guns never use them to control others to allow them to do other things besides shoot them because without the gun those people might resist, but I think connecting the dots may be difficult for you.
