BTW....how's that "trickle up" working out? Looks like all of the profits have trickled up to Wall Street.
Poverty has trickled up, too.

It might have worked 30 to 40 years ago when corporations received tax relief, but now with all of the outsourcing, jobs drying up, it doesn't make any sense to continue to believe that trickle down works in this economy.

Years ago, corporations that received tax breaks as incentives, gave them the money to expand and create more jobs, build more manufacturing plants, now those corporations pocket the savings and put nothing back into the American economy.
But when you think about it, outsourcing is a method of trickling down.
Workers who lived in poverty in other countries now have access to a better wage.

Therefore, wealth still trickles down, only this time it trickles down from America as a whole.

Trickle down worked. Remember "profit sharing" ? We also got good raises and benefits including paying for continuing education and pensions.

Same company 20+ years later..no pensions, benefits cut to bare vacation/sick days, profit sharing is a fond memory, etc and no more pensions. Record profits though but they are keeping it all to themselves now.
Publicly traded or privately held company?

Poverty does not trickle up. Poverty isn't a substance, dollars are.

Dollars are a substance. Dollars trickle down. Dollars flow.

But the economy isn't about trickling up or down.

The economy is about making, taking, and giving.

Maybe so, but I'm pro America. I believe in fixing our country first, above all, everyone else is second in line. I'm not into nation rebuilding for others, sorry.

You have to remember that that particular poster's job DEPENDS on the government enslaving dependent people.

Dollars trickle up through regressive taxation.

Dollars also trickle up when rents rise faster than wages, which is probably most of the time for most renters.

Lets explode a myth....

"Rich people hoard their money"

That has been stated in this thread.

But lets look at how that actually happens.

First the rich dont spend a large percentage of their money on stuff. They SAVE it.

To the progressive that is evil and bad and hoarding. I suppose we need an intervention?
But what happens to the money? does it go in coffee cans then get burried in their overly large back yards?
err... uhm....

The INVEST that money. The investment they make provides cash flow to the busniessess they invest in. That cash flow allows the business to do what? build nicer conference rooms for the exeutives? err.... uhm....

The business with the invesment is expected to return a profit. How does it do that? To begin with it has to do something that creates value. The "doing" requires a workforce. If a company has a higher expectation of profit, because of greater investment from dirty nasty rich people, the company will need more "do'ers of things". Those do'ers of things have to be paid.

we still see the trickle even when the dirty nasty greedy rich hoarders are hoarding....

The issue is WHERE are they investing it?
Offshore tax havens cost Minnesota $2 billion a year, report says [Star Tribune (Minneapolis)] - Businessweek

"This isn't just some esoteric issue that happens in Washington, but it's something that blows a hole in state budgets at a time that states are cutting to the bone," said Dan Smith of the U.S. Public Interest Research Group, one of the report's authors."

Indeed. When I was in college and actually took economics courses, they taught about the money multiplier effect that even by sticking the money in a savings account, that created additional reserves that in turn created additional amounts that banks could lend, thereby stimulating the economy.

The only way rich "hoarding" money would not stimulate the economy is if they indeed had buried it in their obscenely large and well manicured yards.
