The self select comes in the discipline policy.

Charter schools in inner cities may not be "the best" schools but they've still got to be miles better than the public schools many of the students used to attend. Isn't that progress? And if it works for them then who cares if the schools are black-majority?

If you get to cherry pick your students, I don't doubt that you'd have better test scores. That's like saying that a select kids sports team (where they recruit and you have to try out) performs better than community leagues where everyone can play, and then coming to the conclusion that the community leagues are mismanaged.

You are right, I tend to not invest too much time and energy into dumb far-right conspiracy theories...they tend to just rot your brain anyway.

I would like to clarify the funding of charter schools in Colorado. The state/local per-pupil funding goes with the student to the charter school. Charter schools may also get money from foundations, grants, etc.

Well, it's absolutely not tinfoil that the Chicago school system basically is a "tracking" system.

Not as in "they are tracking them via sattelite" but rather tracking as in their educational path.

However, most cities and towns use a career track system of some type.

The problem is that with Chicago, just like with their public housing locations and selected policing....their school system is IMO somewhat scummy. However, no one wants to take the political heat of forcing kids to study, calling out the parents etc etc. Just easier to save the money, blame various boogeymen and let them fail in life.

I agree, I would like to see someone take charge of Chicago and try to improve all the neighborhoods, not just the healthy ones.

Yeah, Chicago in many ways is still rooted in the Daley legacy of segregation. The problem is that NOBODY calls them on it because of the political entrenchment.

Like Christie turning on the republicans over sandy storm relief....I'd love to see Al, Jesse or heck....anybody....take Chicago to task but that's not in the cards.

Where did the civil rights leaders go that were ISSUES oriented moreso that lining their pockets and playing politics? Sigh.
